    Screensaver off in sleep

I can turn the screensaver off, but that just turns it off. I am not sure if there is a way to turn it off in sleep mode and allow it to run when the pc goes into screensaver after inactivity. I want one but not the other. Possible? Dell Optiplex/Windows 10 pro

The screensaver and sleep are two different things. The screensaver can run any time that the system is active, but it cannot run while the computer is sleeping.

One strategy would be to set the screensaver to kick off after a certain period of inactivity, then allow the computer to go to sleep after a LONGER delay than the screensaver.

Example: Set the screensaver to run after 15 minutes of inactivity, then go to sleep after 30 minutes. The result is that the screen save will run after 15 minutes up to the 30 minute mark at which time the computer will sleep and the screensaver will cease.

Useful information for seeing & disabling what could be waking up the computer. Copy-pasted from my Windows Installation notes:

Open Command Prompt as an Administrator, and paste:
    powercfg -lastwake
to see what last woke up the computer.
    Paste this:
    powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
to see the devices that could wake up the computer.
    1) Search for, and open: Device Manager
    2) For example, double click the item under Keyboards
    3) Press the Power Management tab.
    4) Uncheck: Allow this device to wake the computer
    5) Press OK
    6) Repeat these steps for all the other entries listed in
    Command Prompt.
    7) When complete, re-paste the following into Command Prompt:
    powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
and check to see if there is anything else that could wake up
    the computer.

I asked this for my wife. I think what was happening was that she was nudging either the mouse to the keyboard at the moment she was trying to put it to sleep inadvertently waking it before anything happened.

Oh I see. You're most welcome.
Sometimes I put my desktop computer to sleep, and at random times throughout the night, it just randomly wakes up. No keyboard, no mouse movement. So I had to do all the research in what I posted above, and figured that there was other hardware that woke up my computer apparently. In that first post of mine, it practically covers anything that could be waking up your computer, and you can see what could be waking up the computer. Kinda like a full complete guide on what to do to make sure that the computer stays asleep, until you choose to wake it up by pressing the power button.

So yes, the "powercfg -devicequery wake_armed" command will tell you exactly what computer devices could wake up the computer.

My first post is just useful information on setting your computer to wake up whenever you choose to wake it up, by pushing the power button. Kinda the same way on how to turn on your computer from the last Shut Down you did. I mean, that's the only time you want to wake up your computer... whenever you choose to want to wake it up, right? Dunno what is going on in the minds of the Microsoft people on complicating the whole idea of "Sleep" [facepalm emoji].

But also!! Regarding your initial post: Set your screen saver! A screen saver should not wake up your computer at all. Your screen saver will activate once your computer is idle. But also be aware, that you can also set a setting to put your computer to sleep after a set amount of time.

So, I am assuming that you don't want your computer to go to sleep after a certain amount of time, right? And would want your screen saver to turn on after your computer is idle, for a certain amount of time. The only time you want your computer to Sleep is when you choose to put it to Sleep, yes?
