They make money from information which you have probably provided through various sites.The chance they will "delete :the data on payment of a fee is almost laughable.The probability is it will simply be transferred elsewhere.

I believe that I was not clear in my question. My antivirus offers to monitor and send deletion requests to all data broker sites that contain my info. This is for an additional fee to my existing subscription. Just as a natural reflex, I don't like being tracked. But as to the actual value of having this particular information removed I would like modern viewpoints on what the harm and the benefits are to this collection of my information. Also the efficacy of this approach!!!!

So basically you are paying for your information to be sold to the highest bidder under this false blanket of security.

Sure.

With the sheer outrageous rate at which one website after another has their databases breached and sold to the open Internet and how data brokers make money on you, I think it's high time Congress put an end to the BS. But it has to be done with some common sense, and that I'm afraid is a little hard to find on Capital Hill with a bunch of old stiff no nothing bureaucrats. They need a consortium of those who know the tech to make recommendations on how to curtail this growing threat.

As to getting yourself off these websites, I did it manually. It was nothing but a hobby of mine. I'd Google my name and if a website came up I diligently found their opt out mechanism and opted out. Sometimes finding that is a real joke. Today it's hard to find me on the Internet except for the legally public domain stuff of which you need a court order to silence for lack of the right word.

I saw at one of the credit reporting agencies (can't remember which) offer such a paid-for service. Though, I can't vouch for it since I never used their services for such a thing. I keep my credit frozen at all credit reporting agencies unless I need it unfrozen. And no, according to Experian via a Google search freezing your credit has no bearing on your credit score. Thus, I have an account with all three credit reporting agencies. If you don't already have accounts with the three credit reporting agencies you may want to check those out and see what they have to offer in terms of identity theft protection and scrubbing your Info. off the Internet.

That sounds like a lot of conjecture because as I already stated I don't see any of these websites with my Info. anymore. So for me personally my efforts have paid off. Though, every once in a great while some other website creeps up and I have to opt out from them.

Your logic applies to things like opting out of emails or text messages. That's a different story in that then they'll keep sending more and more. I have solutions to that as well but for the sake of brevity and being off topic I won't post yet another three to four paragraphs.

Howdy and thanks for the input. You guessed! Been in the real world a while and can easily remember not being tracked. Don't take that floppy to another computer. Having seen the world and what is given up for "convenience" I am not convinced the direction is quite right. Anyway I appreciate the viewpoint.

Hello and thanks. Don't have the strength of will as of yet to do the thing manually. And not quite sure of your points about the Credit freezing. Lets say I was committed to opting out, would removing the info from the sites keep them or others from reacquiring them. I was phone scam targeted recently and have become more concerned about the issue.
