Delete or Shift+Delete not working for files on Windows 10 Desktop

Did Microsoft kill the ability to delete items from your desktop using the keyboard? Because Del or Shift+Del are no longer working on my desktop icons.

    Hi, not at all.

Can you delete things elsewhere, or does this only affect your desktop?
You mention 'icons'. Do you mean shortcuts?

Do you mean you cannot delete shortcuts, but can delete a file or folder on your desktop?

History please: (so often not stated)
    - when did this start?
    - what happened before that?
E.g. did you install/uninstall/change something... the cat walked over your keyboard...

Have you tried using a recent System Restore point?

Otherwise if you create a new user for test purposes and log in as that user, do you see the same problem?

Build number please (winver) as the forum prompted you so we don't have to keep on asking.

What are we dealing with - laptop? desktop? tablet? - no specs- click My computers below my post for comparison.

Have you installed something that has somehow reallocated those keys?

    Strange coincidence.
Yesterday, and only yesterday, I had issues with the keyboard's Delete button when I tried using it to delete files in a folder. I had to press the Delete button multiple times until the computer registered I was pressing the Delete button. I thought it was the keyboard's battery or the wireless connection to the computer. Maybe it was the same issue as yours. But as of now, it seems to work fine. Give yours a day or two, maybe it will fix itself.

Definitely not. I have the most upto date Windows 10 Home. Version 22H2 Build 19045.2311. With my DELL wireles keyboard, I am able to do with Shift+Delete or plain Delete key, be it a shortcut, file or folder. Absolutely no change in behaviour. May be the Delete key on your keyboard is finicky.( Try deleting a word in a word document with Del Key and check)

    Have you looked in:
Settings>Devices>Mouse>Additional Options-the Hardware tab for any reports?
    Settings>Update & Security>Troubleshooter>Additional Troubleshooters>Keyboard.
In the Search box, type in---dxdiag---and in the Input page expand the entries so you can view the serviceability status of the mouse and keyboard.

Hey everyone thanks for replying to my weird observation.

After pulling my hair out and trying to figure out what I modified; as I try not destroy the OS with customization, I found the problem. It was Stardock's DeskScapes. DeskScapes is set to fade Desktop icons when not in use and appears to break Desktop icons in weird ways ...Sometimes. Restarting Explorer fixes it.

    ---
Deskscapes has some very low CPU usage Windows Dream and some Animated (like colored light flares, dripping pastel paint or warp speed star) backgrounds. I use Deskscapes to protect my OLED screen. As for other items, my tweaks are normally supported by the OS -- like standard settings, group policy changes or a few tray apps.

Note: The only other major addon I have is StartIsBack, which I disabled to test (100% sure its Deskscapes).

    To confirm the 100%:
    1) Restart your computer. (After the computer starts up, DeskScapes should open as well)
    2) Try to delete a Desktop Icon. If it doesn't work, then that's good since we can test exactly if it's DeskScapes.
    3) Go to the Task Manager, and end the DeskScapes application, so it's completely closed.
    4) Now try to delete a Desktop Icon. If it works, then 100% it's that app.
