As you may have seen from my other thread, 'WinSetView Puzzle'

    WinSetView puzzle

everything is working as it should, now it's clear that Save As windows escape the control of WinSetView's embrace.
Normally, after running WinSetVew, File Open/Save dialogs should do one of following, depending on the Set views for Open and Save dialogs in the Options menu:

Unchecked: File Open/Save dialogs should follow the defaults you have set for each folder type.

Checked: File Open/Save dialogs should all be in the one view selected under this option, regardless of what was set for each folder type.

There's something unusual going on with those hybrid views you're seeing. I'll follow up in the other thread.

    Paul,

Are you saying that the command worked without that colon? I thought it was essential with Get-ItemProperty commands.

Mine did NOT work WITH the colon in the Registry Editor, but DID without it.

EDIT: Sorry, my fault, that is the code for PS, NOT the Registry Editor.

    I'm missing/forgotten something basic here!
No, not something basic, something quite subtle in fact.

I have a folder which opens by default with a few familiar columns: Name, Date Modified, Type, Size. These are mainly MP3 music files and I add another column of current interest, Length.

But when I re-open it a few minutes later, the Length column has gone.
I had something similar, a particular folder I wanted to be sorted by date. And it was, for many years. Then one day it wasn't, and sorting it by date did not stick.

This is a problem that may only be seen on a machine that has had a long and active life. There is in fact a limit of 5,000 individual folder views that Windows can remember, and after many years of active use it's quite possible to reach that limit, and then Windows stops remembering any new folder layouts. It sounds like you may have reached that limit.

If so, then you have two options. Either reset the folder views, of increase the limit. In my case I reset my folder views.

By default, Windows will only remember the first 5000 folders you apply folder view settings to. After you reach the default 5000 folders limit (BagMRU Size), Windows will no longer remember anymore folder view settings you apply.

Windows stores the folder view settings of the current user in the registry key below for each folder until the limit has been reached.

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Shell\BagMRU

If you find Windows not remembering your folder view settings, you can increase the cache memory size (BagMRU Size) up to a maximum of 20,000 folders to be remembered instead of the default 5,000 folders.

I copied the PowerShell path -- where HKCU and HKLM are "drives" in the registry provider....
