No picture, no sound but everything on

    This just happened...

watching Youtube video when suddenly the screen went blank and the sound was gone (PC is still running). The screen can still be turned on and off with the splash screen showing but nothing else. I look at the case and all the LEDs are still on exactly the same as always. There's no heat anywhere either. No option but to hard reset.

I hold down the power button... nothing. PC won't turn off. So I switch it off at the side where the power cable is, wait a while and turn it back on. Now it's running again but I have no idea what happened or why or if it will happen again. Never had this before.

Any ideas? The PC isn't that old (about 2,5 years).

    Hi there -

This is a tough one to figure out. I would look in the Event Viewer to see if there was an entry.
I would temporarily disable Sleep Mode on your computer and run a CHKDSK C: /F /V in a command prompt just to be sure.

If all is OK now, I would just leave it alone and see if it happens again.

One other item. I suggest having a UPS in case of a power glitch or failure.
Every computer should have a minimum of protection such as this.

    Post back with any questions.

    Thanks.

Physically unplug and re-plug all external cables at both connecting ends (i.e. don't just check, jiggle, push, etc) - electrical, video, monitor.

    Change power outlets and test.

    Everything helps.
