weird laptop battery behaviour

i put my laptop to sleep when not in use,

yesterday in my area there was 6 hour power outage

during this outage, i didn't use laptop at all

when electricity came back, my laptop battery was not charging at all

and after 10 minutes the electricity again went down once again for a couple of minutes and my laptop shutdown immediately without any warning

and i thought that oh no, now i have to buy a new battery

however today when i used the laptop

battery is working fine once again

i am unable to attach BatteryReport.html file here

The battery appears to be new so I have no explanation for the behaviour you report.

Ok Denis Thanks a Lot for taking your valuable time to help me

however i should clarify that battery is 3-4 years old as i dont remember the exact date or year when i bought it

the laptop is however much older 7-8 years

for me just change the battery. Lifespan is getting shorter every year.

Batteries gradually deteriorate.
- I have one that is three years old that still also shows FULL CHARGE CAPACITY = DESIGN CAPACITY like yours
- It [like yours, I suspect] has spent its life almost unused, just fitted to a laptop that is normally connected to mains power.
- A five year old battery of mine, by contrast, only has 60% of the capacity it did when new. It was heavily used for its first year but since then its laptop has generally been plugged in.

I monitor my batteries monthly so I have plenty of warning of their ratio of FULL CHARGE CAPACITY to DESIGN CAPACITY starting to drop.

I've just seen icodix's post. I disagree. There is no reason to suspect your battery based on the info you have posted.

I guess from the screenshot posted by the OP, the battery was made in 2015, making it 7 years old or so. Batteries degrade over time even if not used, and especially if the laptop is always plugged in, that is certainly detrimental for the battery.

That said, what you experienced might not be battery related at all. When laptop is "sleeping" it still consumes energy from the battery and depending on which programs were active (or open) at the time you put it to sleep, the battery charge may be used faster or slower. Now, if your electricity was up for only 10 minutes, then who knows what was going on in the grid and how your laptop reacted to this.

In other words, I would not put too much thought to something that occurred once. If the unwanted behavior (losing too much charge while sleeping, for instance) repeats itself and becomes a pattern, then I would think of replacing a battery (if at all possible, my newer laptops do not even have such possibility).
