    ._ files won't open

I had my hard drive replaced with an SSD. My files were copied to an Ubuntu drive and when copied back to my windows 10, thousands of files have the ._ prefix. I tried removing it from several files and they still do not show up. I have show hidden files and folder checked but in searching online these are called invisible, not hidden, files. These are very important to me and there are over 2 hundred thousand of them! What do I do to access these files? I have windows 10 home edition.

If you only copied the files from the drive you replaced they will still be on this drive. If you still have this drive and it is still bootable put it back into your laptop and copy your files to an external drive or thumb drive.
Did you make a backup of your old drive before replacing it?
Another thought. Have you tried changing the extension to .txt?

My grandson, a computer programer took my laptop at Christmas and copied the files to his Ubuntu PC. It seems that Macs and some operating systems do this. He lives 1500 miles from me but will try to access the old hard drive and copy them to a few jump drives. I have almost 2 TB of files. Some are ok but most are not. Renaming doesn't help.

    Hello febsr,

I hope nothing happens to the HDD until you get this resolved.

Putting the HDD into a USB to SATA enclosure should give you the ability to copy your files to your new SSD or access them via Windows File Explorer.

Yes, like in the post right above mine, you can put that HDD into a seperate enclosure
    (like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Exter...%2C147&sr=8-36 )
and you can connect this whole setup to your computer using the USB cable that comes with it.

Exactly what's the name / brand / or better yet, take a picture of that HDD, and post it here, and we can help you figure out which enclosure you can obtain to access the HDD with all the original files.

    1) Hopefully you still have the HDD.
    2) Hopefully all the files are still on it. If they got deleted, we can try recovering them.
