laptop screen switched off when laptop woke up from sleep

i have an hp pavilion 13 inch laptop. it is around 7 years old and it has windows 10 build 1809. normally when i close the lid the laptop goes to sleep and when i open the lid the laptop wakes up from sleep and the screen switches on

i had closed and opened the lid a couple of times in the morning and then i closed the lid and i went out. i came back home and i opened the lid. this time the screen came on for a second and then it switched off and moving the mouse didnt switch on the screen. i closed the lid and i opened it again. i saw that the laptop was off and i had to press the power button to switch it on. i did some checking and i found out that the laptop hibernated when it switched off and it didn't improperly shut down

what happened? is it a bug in windows? is it a bug in hp laptops? i think that this is the first time the issue happened in the 7 years that i used the laptop

Have you checked the Power Options in the Control Panel ? May reset those to see if cause.

How often do you reboot your laptop?

I had a client that I had to do a repair on her laptop as she would never reboot her laptop unless it was installing Windows Updates.

Everytime you put your laptop Into a sleep state, it saves your session to memory, and basically shuts the laptop off "or any PC" and when youove the mouse, or open the lid, it will recover from that saved state

If your laptop is 7 years old, then having this happen could definitely be due to your laptop being older from normal use.
You could also run Windows Memory Diagnostics, or memtest, to make sure that one of your memory modules isn't starting to exhibit odd behavior from it starting to fail.

Also it may be a good idea in the meantime to reboot your laptop every once in a while, or do a full shutdown, to clear the memory and start in a clean state.

In Windows 10, to do a clean shutdown, you will need to make sure that Fast Startup is disabled.

Is there a reason why you haven't updated to a later version of Windows 10? Version 1809 is no longer supported by Microsoft. 20H2 us the earliest build supported as of now.
