Fantastic job figuring this subtle grounding issue out.
Is the random login delay is fixed too? May want replace the cellophane tape with some thicker electrical tape if you think the cellphone tape might wear out or fall off.
Weird Boot problem. No more BIOS splash screen.

Good idea about the electrical tape. But I'm thinking I should probably just get a new HDMI cable.
Maybe a locking one, with a smaller housing, cause it's right next to the DP cable.
I have to go on Win 11, and make a new backup... just in case number 1 or 2 in post #20 had something to do with it.
That's an even better idea.
I still don't know why ground on case isn't the same as ground on HDMI connector.
Maybe the ground on case isn't as "good" a ground as the one on the connector?

Well, it's definitely NOT number 2 in post #20. Cause I didn't do that on Win 11, and it's fixed on Win 11 too.
Other things I didn't do on Win 11 when troubleshooting this problem.
1. Totally uninstall and reinstall Bitdefender
2. Didn't re-install vid card drivers
3. Didn't uninstall TranslucentTB
4. I left\Microsoft\Windows\Management\Provisioning\Logondisabled on Win 11, in Task Scheduler
5. Didn't update AIDA64 Extreme from 6.33 to 6.50
...I think that's it. If I think of anything else that I "didn't" do on Win 11 while troubleshooting, I will post it here.Last edited by Ghot; 20 Nov 2021 at 01:32.

Well whatever it was... we kicked it's... app.
Honestly... the problem is this OLD case. It doesn't really line up with the vid card's rows of connectors very well.
The vid card connectors end up riding a bit high in the slots left by the case.
I tried loosening the screw and adjusting the vid card a bit lower, but it won't budge.
Ok, Win 11 is up to date, so I'm headed back to Win 10. Cya on the other side.

I actually have some of that liquid rubber, that you can dip things in...

I can tape the area I don't want rubberized, then just dip it. It's even black in color.
I bought it 8 years ago and never used it yet. It may be time to break it out.
Just checked... it's still liquid.
30 mins between coats, 4 hours minimum dry time.
I can brush it on too.
Q: What are you gonna be doing this weekend?
A: I think I'll rubberize my HDMI connector.

Tape is an absolute saviour, but many years ofMessing aboutProfessional troubleshooting has taught me that it's only ever a temporary fix

I'm just gonna rubberize the top of the connector a bit.
Those bars are only 1/16" aluminum, might not be a good idea to grind on or remove one of them.
Just unhooked the HDMI cable. I'm gonna rubberize tonight, so it's dry by tomorrow.
1st coat is on. Looks like two coats may do it. This stuff is pretty thick.
Fortunately, I have a bunch of teeny artists brushes.
2nd coat is on, and that will definitely do it.
Well... I put a 3rd coat on, just cause it's Made in the U.S.A.

If disconnecting the shell fixes your problem, who am I to argue? But I suspect there is something else wrong, as that should not be necessary. Perhaps the HDMI cable is faulty (using the shell connection improperly?). I found many references to problems people have had with HDMI grounding (mostly audio-related), and in most cases the cure was to ground at least one end - and I also found very stroing opinions on how many ends should be grounded (or rather, bonded to the 'box' the connection terminated at).
