Windows 10 does not always recognize MP4 files

Sometimes the video streams, other times I get the message ...

Can't play. Try playing something else. This items file format may be unsupported, the file extension incorrect, or the file may be corrupted 0xc00d36c4 (0xc00d36c4)

I know that the file extension is correct, and the file is not corrupted.
I didn't ever have this problem when using Windows 7.
    Suggestions appreciated
    thx

MP4's are handled by iTunes. If you don't need iTunes for a device, then you can use VLC (VideoLAN) which plays almost all formats.

MP4 is a format used a lot by Apple Products, their paid content is MP4 with a DRM in it, check if the MP4 is paid content, you can use iTunes to check. It will tell you if you need a license to play it.

i don't have same issue but i do have iTunes and microsoft music app Groove will play only 50 songs out of 500 or so.. those 50 are the ones i added to iTunes from cds converted to iTunes mp4 ... i did see the reason is if the mp4 files are protected by the digital license it wont play or be seen by the app...

The best solution for nearly any type of file is Videolan/VLC player
It's free and plays nearly any codec anyone has ever invented

    VLC media Player

Thanks for the replies ... Sorry for taking so long to respond.
    I should elaborate some ...
I like to take a lot of pictures and videos with my smartphone (android device).
When I plug my phone into my computer afterwards and try to view, this is when I encounter difficulties.
Sometimes the video will stream, other times the same clip will not stream and I get the message shown in my original post.
I tried VLC but that program doesn't seem to want to add files for viewing.
Never had the problem before using Windows 7.
