Forced to power down

The 'flashing cursor' no longer flashed and seemed frozen and could not be moved though was able to move the mouse pointer, use the keyboard but when I tried to chose sleep or hibernate nothing happened. So I forced immediate shutdown.

In my event viewer I noticed the following odd log entries in system:
NOTE @17:45 I forced shutdown and immediately powered up

Log entry @17:45 The previous system shutdown at 17:24:10 on ‎03/‎03/‎2021 was unexpected. (Event ID 6008)
Huh!? What shutdown? System has been up for several days and I've been using it since roughly 15:30 today with no issues till 17:45!

Log entry @15:35 The shadow copies of volume C: were aborted because the shadow copy storage could not grow due to a user imposed limit.
No idea what this means? It was roughly about when I powered up the PC from sleep to do some work.

These log entries seem very odd to me!!

Thanks will take a look, puzzled about the other log entry though :)

Look in Reliability History for any entries covering the "unexpected shutdown".If there are any,then the "view tech details "should provide information in lines 1 & 2.

My computer didn't shutdown @17:24 I was using it I'd think I'd know.

The suggestion was to look in RELIABILITY HISTORY,not Event Viewer.
I definitely do know.

I followed your suggestion and got something out of it, so thanks.

I've used it before, but keep forgetting about it since my PCs are generally trouble free (still on 2004 )

Any time your system hangs, and you're forced to cycle power to regain control, you'll get an "unexpected shutdown" error. Happens to me at least once a month, on many/most of my Windows 10 systems. It's just one of those things, AFAIK.

That was exactly what happened in my case, but I don't recall what I had done to cause my PC to become hung. /cheers
