I did the registry fix but it didnt work. The registry change as it was before after a restart.
The problem still remains for me too.
I did the solution in registry and works fine, but when I restart a few times is back...
Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Hi, which symptom do you find recurs? Desktop icon rearrangement or folder view settings or both? What do you notice?
In principle - and only as a temporary fix until a better solution is found- as far as the registry values are concerned- you could
a. schedule the script to run at an appropriate time
b. have a script running all the time that tests the keys and rewrites them when incorrect.
That's assuming rewriting the keys is useful, and you then get back the desktop icon placement/folder view settings as you want them. If a restart is needed to achieve that, or the placement and settings are lost, it's not that helpful.
Of course, using one of the suggested utilities could address desktop icon placement.
Finally, perhaps ESET is not the only culprit, but you need to do some analysis to find out what's doing it e.g. using Sysinternals Proc mon, provided the values are rewritten when it's possible to capture that action, and not early in the boot sequence.
It might also be interesting to know if the values are rewritten booting to Safe Mode only.
Just some meandering thoughts...
- Yes, it's unfortunate, sometimes beggars can't be choosers- hey, you got Win 10 'free' - and you chose to be an early adopter; so almost inevitably there will be teething problems and incompatibilities given so many platforms, mixes of hardware and software. I and others with Conexant sound have lost audio with later builds of Audacity and Ashampoo software...
Hi Lads,
Well, for a time after fixing registry keys it worked (maybe a day or two) then it changed and icons started flying again, I've started experimenting with limiting access, changing default value of the key etc. , at some point both keys stood "windows storage" but the icons kept changing and of course uninstalling eset didnt help at all. I also tried to delete both keys.. didnt help either, now i dont have them... the icons stay the same....
My sloppyness caused deletion of my reg-backup.... could somebody copy me both keys (32&64) with their default values? Also users permissions would be nice....
Then I'll try one last time....
Here ya go ...
