Restarted PC and folder on desktop just disappeared

1 year old Dell XPS 13. Had a folder with some pictures on the desktop. Restarted it and the folder is gone. Looked in the desktop folder in the profile directory and enabled show hidden/system files. Thing is gone. Tried ESUS and ReCuva and honestly, they just found unusable garbage. Any ideas as to what happened? Kinda makes one not trust their PC any more.
    Windows 10 fully updated.

Could it be you relocated your desktop folder at some point?

Did you name the folder? Try to look for it with "Everything": Everything - voidtools

I searched for the folder name. Recents show the folder/files but are dead links. Folder was not renamed or moved prior to reboot. Also checked to make sure a temp profile wasn't being used. Only that one folder is gone.

    It must be somewhere.
    - Do a check disk. Open a CMD window as administrator and type:
    chkdsk c: /f
It will say your disk is in use and if you want to schedule to next start = yes
    Restart
Pay attention on the results, specially bad blocks, bad clusters, bad sectors etc

Do a search on the folder name and / or a file on the folder.
As Jacee recommended, Everything is very good.

Browse to C:\Users\[UserName] open the Desktop folder, go to the Toolbar/View and make sure Hidden Files is checked. If it's not there, then check in the other User files (ie) Documents, Pictures etc, it may accidentally been dragged into that folder.

    Checked and no.

There was an issue with Windows 10 and files going poof along with a solution a few months ago, but I can't seem to find anything on it now. Its lost in Google search garbage it seems.
