Yes, that's what the OP asked for.

Actually the OP was unclear. In their thread title they said 'active window' but they later said, ".. except for active windows only." Windows is plural, and so I cannot determine if they mean ANY open windows or merely ONE open window.

Greenshot can provides two different ways to achieve this. One is a keystroke --

and one is a sort of hunting with your cursor to select the window you want.

I concur with your comment that said request is a no. I'm attempting to offer a fairly similar yes but I need the OP to answer my question.

@The Pool Man - "what do you care..."
    lol
@Try3 - Thank you! Ive also been using MSPaint myself and Photoshop. Would be nice to have an active window alternative to [start/win + print Scrn], but oh well.

Just use Greenshot as @The Pool Man suggested...,

    Alt-PrintScreen, bang! On your desktop!

Or, if you want to go through the hassle of pasting into some other application, use Win+Shift+S

You can set up GREENSHOT to do the entire screen with one key and dump it anywhere you like in the format you prefer.

    Greenshot
I have using GREENSHOT for over six months now. Hot keys include:
    • Capture full screen
    • Capture window
    • Capture region

The captured images go to the selected destination which by default is a folder you preselected.
Format can be: bmp, gif, jpg, png, tiff, greenshot, or ico

Thank you all for your support. For clarification, though the subject could have been phrased better, my original post was asking, not if there were other ways of doing screen shots, but if there was a specific "key-stroke" (hotkey) to accomplish the desired task. Personally, When I respond to posts, I try to respond to the body of a post, not just the subject line. It'd be like saying I know what a books story is about because I read the title of the book.
In spite of this, you have pushed Greenshot (Which I'm sure has plenty of great features). I do not want an app or a program. I have my reasons and Its just not what I'm looking for. I did not insult you or Greenshot. But if you feel that my preferences somehow reflect the value of you or your program, I can't help resolve that.
@Try3 gave me a clear cut answer, even if it was slightly disappointing. I thank you Try3

I'm marking this thread as solved.
