I was forced to install v.2004 update recently. Now when I try to record sound via my mic it sounds a plane prop. I often record videos and sound on that PC and this really sets me back. I did some search and it seems like the issue is with v.2004.
Does anyone know when will they fix it?
PS. Also why are we forced to install something from 2004?
It depends on what version you were on.
Each version reaches end of service at 18 months.
If you have reached that point, or are close to it, Microsoft eventually force upgrades you to the current version.
You might try running the troubleshooter.
Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters
Select the audio troubleshooters (Recording and Playing).
Failing that, go to your computer manufacturer's site, and the hardware vendor's site, and see if there are updated drivers for your sound card.
C'mon dude, those troubleshooters are useless. You know that. They never work. It's like Help in Windows. Who uses it?
I heard that there's some new update to v.2004 that fixes all the damage it caused. I tried checking for updates on that PC and it shows that I'm current. Does anyone know how I can manually download it? Because I need to fix this mic.

Sometimes troubleshooters help, sometimes they don't.
Try them or not...keep the snark to yourself.
Try going to device manager, right click your audio from ,'Sound, video and game controllers', then update driver, 'browse my computer for drivers', then 'let me pick from a list of available drivers........' . In the properties window try another driver. I have 4 showing and the slightly highlighted one is in use I believe. If that doesn't work go to your PC's manufacturer's site and get the latest drivers.
Open ---dxdiag---- and go through the pages to see if any problems are listed.
The drivers' details are also given and can be used to check on the makers sites for any updates.
Does Reliabilty History have any relevant entries?
Has your gpu card a settings menu,e.g. my nvidea card allows changes to video audio and display.
The built-in troubleshooting tools do work,sfc and dism prove it.
