Thanks again, I won't bother with the new 2004 version then.
If I switch 'Automatic Updates' back on so that I get any available security updates, will it automatically install this 2004 version which i don't want.

It's very possible that some files may have got corrupted when they got updated/installed. If you want to try again and have a external drive I would make a image with Macrium Reflect free before updating. That way if you run into a problem using Windows to rollback you can use the Macrium image. I also suggest using a downloaded ISO to do the update. If you try again and run into any problems you can use the ISO to do a repair install to see if that fixes your problem.
