    Problems with latest update

i have downloaded and installed the latest version of Windows 10, version 2004 build 19401.264 and now everything is locked up and I can't do a thing. If I try to get onto the internet |i just get a message telling me that Edge is not responding.

If I try to run Malwarebytes it gets stuck at scanning the startup section. Trying to open anything just isn't working.

I am using this forum via my laptop at the moment.

Someone suggested that I roll back the update and then block it but I can't get at anything to do that and in any case I wouldn't know where to start.

Has anyone else encountered similar problems please? Many thanks.

This is an old machine from around 2010.

I advise you to 'go back to the previous build'.

If you can boot to the login screen, then click the power button, SHIFT + left click restart and navigate thru the prompts to 'go back to the previous build'.

Go Back to the Previous Version of Windows in Windows 10

If that works for you, you can stay with that and disable Windows Update. There are some bugs in 2004 anyway.

Currently I'm dealing with a thread where someone updated an old laptop to 2004 and no has no sound - just an example.

If I turn off the power at the wall socket and then switch it on again it will take me to the point which asks for my password, where do I go from there? Not sure what you mean by 'click on the power button'

At the moment, from the desktop I managed to click on 'restart' but I have been looking at the screen for 15 minutes or more and it is just the word 'restarting' with the dots circling above it and so it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Thank you dalchina, I have now spotted what you are saying to me and am now going through the 'uninstall' process.

EDIT - Thanks a million, all seems to have been uninstalled and everything seems to be back to normal and working again.

Thank you so much, greatly appreciated.

On the login screen, bottom right on the screen there is a button shown - click on that using your mouse.

There’s also a conflict between Malwarebytes & 2004 which is causing slowdowns, the solution is to either update to the latest Beta version or disable ransomware protection.

Yes I did have problems with Malwarebytes after doing the update but now that I have uninstalled the latest W10 jobby everything seems to be OK.

    Thank you for your input.

After all of the problems I had when I did the latest update, and then managed to 'undo' it with the help of fellow members, can anyone tell me if the bugs have been overcome and is it now safe to 'get up-to-date' again.

I turned off 'Automatic Updates' after my 'cleanup'

    Many thanks.

I suggest you try this: put a spare drive into your PC, clean install build 2004 on that and see if it will run.

That separates problems related to installed software and tells you is you will have driver problems, without much messing about.

Any upgrade on an old PC not specified for Win 10 is at the owner's risk.

If ok, then return to your present disk, consider if you want trouble, create a disk image of what you have now, then attempt the upgrade. But there's nothing in 2004 that will excite you....

Hello again dalchina, thanks again for your input. I know that my pc is quite old but I haven't experienced the problems with updates to Windows before, just this very latest one. I don't think that I can be bothered to fit a new drive into the pc, is it possible that I could do what you suggest on an external SSD?

By the way, I see that you are a Midlander, do you follow footy at all? I'm a Brummie but have lived in Devon for 46 years.

Hi, you don't want two Win 10 installations on the same PC like that...

If you don't wish to swap the disk your options are:
    a. Create a disk image of all partitions now and be prepared to restore them should things go wrong. Then attempt upgrading.
If upgrading fails, don't try to spend days probably failing to resolve the problem.
    b. Ignore build 2004. It adds nothing. Live in a state of calm and gratitude because yo have a working PC and can get on with things.

Midlands, yes, lived in a number of places around the world. Football- no!
