Renaming This PC (aka My Computer)

I would like to use a different name instead of This PC so that in the path it looks like (new name)>Local Drive>... How can I edit it and is it safe?

Right-click on the This PC 'folder' in File explorer & select Rename. I haven't seen reports of any side-effects.

Yes, it seems easy but I wonder if I should edit anything in the registry like when renaming user folders.

"Right-click on the This PC 'folder' in File explorer & select Rename" is all you need to do.

    Denis

PS You should only ever need to use the Registry when 'relocating' user folders [Documents, Music, ...] if you have made mistakes that cannot be corrected through the user interface. But you might have been referring to relocating the whole C:\Users\%UserName% folder in which case I understand that you would need to take special action including Registry changes [I have no experience of this - Change Name of User Profile Folder in Windows 10].

I'm a bit confused; are you wanting to rename the PC or just a file folder?

Look at this: go to settings, system, scroll down to about, select about......on the right hand side, scroll down to "Rename this PC" and click it and then input desired name.

Oh and that is not actually the path but merely how File explorer shows the info until you click in the File explorer address bar at which stage it will change to show you the actual path - This PC / (new name) disappears and you'll just see Local Drive> ... {e.g. D:\...}.

The OP is trying to re-label the This PC entry in File explorer.

    Decimus -

1 If this is wrong then please post back to explain what you really want to do - without taking any action until any confusion is resolved.

2 It's your PC so I have focussed on helping you do what you said you wanted. I have omitted the very subjective comment that I do not think what you want achieves anything.

That is correct - the question was about re-labelling This PC in Explorer. If this doesn't mess up the registry and/or other system elements then I just do the simple renaming as suggested above. Thank you all.
