Build 10240 - Slow, Crashes, Freezes..

This build has easily started off as the most unreliable of them all for me. Everything seems to respond slower, even dragging icons across my screens. Chrome freezes and or crashes frequently, the search bar doesn't bring up any results, the windows button doesn't work more often than not...

Does anyone have a solution for this? Given how close we are to the release date this is terrifying if this is their "Final" build as I planned on doing a clean install.

    Any help is appreciated.

A clean install might be best. In my (very limited) experience, stacking upgrades can lead to a poor result.

Rather than that, I re-installed 8.1 from a disk image, and upgraded to 10240 from that (using an .iso prepared from the .esd from the online upgrade). The result isn't 100% bug free, but the bugs that I've seen are fairly minor.

I may do a cleaner install before 7/29. It appears that 10240 is the version that MS will release, possibly excepting a few patches that ought to be available through Windows Update. I'd prefer a really clean install (from a USB flash drive), but I doubt that would activate.

Perhaps stacking is the problem. I've reverted back to 10130 for now and will probably wait until the 7.29 release to do the clean .ISO install from a USB.

What do you mean by you "doubt that would activate"?

    windows 10 = disappointing

yeah, same problems here. random lock ups , total freeze while playing Dirt rally, boot time of over a minute, (i have an SSD and trim is enabled..) what bugs me the most is this is the first OS i decided to actually purchase for my system.. seems like hacked software is more reliable than untouched software. Kind of disappointed with this OS. I know the reason why they skipped 9, but the curse is still real!! every second MS OS SUCKS! hopefully they release some fixes in the near future. and it's nice to know i'm not the only one. Edit: oh, and i did use the tech preview a while back and seemed more stable than the release. also I did a clean install from disk and got all these issues.

That's very strange...I've had it for a while too and this is the first real issue I've had...everything else has been pretty great and smooth. You may need to look at your hardware to ensure it is all functioning properly with drivers being up to date - perhaps a failing GPU or HD?

I might have cured the issue. May have been some of my memory, or lack of cooling. Keeping my fingers crossed. lol Pulled 2 of the possibly defective ram, added a top fan to my case. i recently did a swap of motherboards with a friend of mine, and went with a fresh OS, previously 7. He reassured me it all worked well. i don't know. windows still has a bit of a lag now and then. other than that i played Dirt rally for an hour without issue. Still, kinda bummed i can't play some of my older titles that require Games for windows Live application.
