No System Restore Point Created During Microsoft Update

I upgraded from Win 7 to Win 10 this past week. All is well except for one thing. I received an update from Microsoft yesterday (Cumulative Update for Win 10 - KB3081424) and noted during the installation that no restore point was created. System Protection is ON and I am able to create restore points manually. Thus, this is only a minor annoyance since I can successfully create these points on my own. However, I would prefer for the system to do so when important updates from Microsoft come down. I guess it is possible that the update referenced above did not generate such a point but found that unusual since it is listed as a Cumulative Update. Thanks for any input regarding this issue!!!

After update yesterday I can't go back to win 7 either, the windows.old folder is still in the pc
    C:\Windows.old
Any way to resolve this without a full system restore ?

Recovery Point creation is still working for me. Upgraded from Win7 and had to turn it back on again.
I am also fighting with at 72GB SSD boot drive so while protection is you may need to check the reservation size. I had to increase mine and KB3081424 was supposedly pretty large. I am at 10% 7.4GB and with 3 restore points 6.8/7.4 shows to be used.

Yours is a completely different problem from the original poster. Please don't hijack threads with different problems -- it makes solving the original problem very confusing. Please start your own thread.

    Hokie,

Same problem here. Have built a test Win 10 on a spare PC and turned on System Restore, (it is turned off by default).
Created a couple of System Restores following antivirus and firewall installs, then checked for Windows Updates.
Lo and Behold, it did not create a Restore Point prior to installing. Let's hope that we don't have a serious problem with updates, otherwise there will not be a System Restore point to restore to, unless you have created a manual one.

The only options available via Start > Settings > Update & Security are 'Reset this PC' which removes apps & settings, or 'Remove Everything'. It does not include a System Restore option. Are Microsoft intending to phase out this functionality I wonder? If so, I regard this as a serious retrograde step.
