I've only used Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and Windows 8.1.1 (I know it's not an actual OS, but it fixed a lot of issues in Windows 8.1) And out of those three I have to say that I really like Windows 8.1.1!

After using or at least trying every version of Windows since Windows 3.0, it appears to this old tech, that any computer will run any OS, if it was properly built to do so.

After a lot of testing and hair pulling, I've come to the conclusion that not all PC's will do well with Windows 8+.
I have ten running PC's and some will do their best with Windows XP, others with Windows 7, but only one out of the bunch does well with Windows 8 or 8.1., and that's really my XP machine. So currently there is NO Windows 8 or better running in my house and never will be, unless I get a new PC that was actually built and factory loaded with 8.1 (for instance).

Interesting poll, that so few people actually like XP, after it's been around so long. Oh well.......

Y'all have a great summer now.....

Now that there are drivers out there for Windows 8.x I've had almost no issues installing Windows 8.1 on my old hardware. When 8.0 first came out it was a different story though. The available drivers were not the best. Beta drivers for a Beta OS. I guess it all depends on how old your hardware is. My two desktops and two laptops are running 8.1 update 1.

Vista was a relief from the horrible XP.
    What????
Vista was the worst before Win 8. Win 7 was released immediately because Vista flopped.
Even without MS support today, XP is above Vista. What are you talking about?

I voted Windows 7. I remember upgrading from XP and just being blown away at how smooth and fast it was! Now I've grown used to 8.1.1, and all is well with the world. Well, I do still like to boot Linux every now and then, just to see what's been happening with Mint and Ubuntu.

No mention at all of NT? I got to play around with NT 4 Server. It was kind of funny because it was hard wired to write to HD immediately to sidestep data loss due to power failure. You could hear the IDE disk make a noise every time you saved a file.

I never did get a chance to try NT 4 client edition or whatever they called the non server version.

I got to play with NT4 Workstation and NT4 Server. I had a course on it many years ago. I've still got the course books around somewhere. It was a good solid OS. It was not game friendly so I didn't run it at home much. It was on all our Work PC's. When Windows 2000 (NT 5.0) came out I quickly switched to it, it was game friendly. It was one of my all time favorite Microsoft OS's. I ran it until support ended and then moved on to XP.

I am sorry, but I have to disagree. Vista was a fine operating system. I am still using it on two PCs and really never had any problems - actually less than with Windows 7. XP is a horrible thing from the dawn of time and gets only beat by 8.1.

Totally slipped my mind. Workstation. I remember back around that time Sun Microsystems machines were "Workstations" and therefore serious pieces of hardware. :)
