Aceesing files in Folder is slow

Since the latest Windows update when I access files in any folder, it is slow when trying to find the file. Even when sorting by date are alphabetically it is slow


Please advise on how to overcome this

Once you're running Windows, schedule a disk Check.
Open a CMD as administrator window and type chkdsk c: /f
It will say that the disk is in use and if you want to schedule on next boot = yes.
Reboot

Thanks for your help. I tried that and when I opened and folder to sort by date , it is still slow. It could have to do with indexing, but not sure how to speed this up

This has happened since Windows 10 was updated +- a month ago

Right click on the folder, select "properties". Go to the "customize" tab.

There's an "optimize this folder for" selection. If "pictures" is selected, things may be slow. Try "general items".

What is your Windows build?
Win key + r, winver








Could you explain exactly what you mean by this? E.g.
- using the search field at the top right of file explorer
- clicking once on a file in those shown, then typing letters in a file to jump to a file
- something else

My windows build number is 17763.503

If I open the file explorer and then select date modified , it takes +- 30 secs to sort by latest date modified

Is the speed the same if there are few or many files in the folder?
Please post a screenshot of your task manager when you are experiencing this, sorting any columns of interest high to low by clicking on the relevant column header.

the speed is slower wen there are many files in a folder. Never noticed this before last windows update






In particular, is there any excessive resource usage when your PC is nominally idle?

Is it the same in Safe Mode?

What type of files are you sorting? Does this ring bells?
