    torquemada...that is the point when it asks for name and password it says one or the other is not valid... I am dead in the water at that point

    yes that is the screen I see, I can get Win 7 to open in safe mode or safe mode networking, but that is it have no pointer and arrows dont work

    So you can actually see your windows desktop when you hit Safe Mode?

    Come on guys and gals , I'm an old pensioner may need some help, let's get Peggy sorted out.

    LOL Torquemada, yes I can see the desktop icons and everything, has the box explaining what safe mode is, but I can't do anything beyond this because I have no pointer :P I really so do appreciate your help, and thanks for the giggle :)

    Right oh, start the laptop do your favourite F8 trick and cursor down to "last known good configuration" hit enter cross your fingers and anything else thats handy.
