    Jukebox album CDs for use in cars

    For some time I have been using the rather old Roxio Creator Suite 10 in Win 10 to produce audio CDs containing up to 11 albums that play in a car CD player. Jukebox CD is a term also used to refer to CDs that simply contain many audio files, but I prefer it to refer to organised CDs containing albums.

    Unfortunately the latest Win 10 update has put an end to this process and I am not able to discern whether the latest Roxio software has this ability.

    I should point out that the car in which I wish to play jukebox CDs doesn't have the ability to play music via USB.

    Can anyone help me by advising whether later Roxio software, or indeed any other software, allows the burning of multiple albums onto a CD that plays in a car CD player? This ability isn't universal as my other car won't play these Roxio-created CDs.

    First, are you making "audio" CD's from wav files or MP3 audio CD's? I suspect you are making MP3 CD's but its not clear.
    MP3 CD's are merely "data" CD's and any CD burning program will do that. All you are doing is copying the MP3's to the CD.

    True Audio CD's are different and do require a CD burning program for that. Also Audio CD's need to be burned at a slow speed to be compatible with older Audio CD players. Audio CD's burned at high speeds will either skip or not play at all on older Audio CD players. I make Audio CD's for my recording studio clients and my burning speed "standard" is 8X.

    The free "CDBurnerXP" is Win 10 compatible even though the name suggests Win XP. It has a Roxio feel to it. Give it a try for what you want to do.

    Hi there

    @stony41
    actually easiest way is as follows

    1) get winamp --still works fine on W10
    2) Rip the cd's you want to album1,album2 etc -- the Winamp software has gracenote built in so your music / songs will be tagged just fine - gracenote is still probably the best tagging service and built in !!
    3) order the albums, tracks how you want
    4) create new combined audio CD (mp3) with any standard burning software - must be zillions of freebies out there.

    BTW a normal audio cd just has tracks 1.cda, 2.cda etc. There's a unique ID number also somewhere in the "text area" which is used to get track info etc when gracenote or other music identifier service (e.g freedb etc) is used.

    another suggestion - if your car has an Aux in facility you could store music on phone and then connect phone speaker out (headphone lead) to the aux in facility -- turn volume down while testing as headphone output from phone might be quite high level for Aux in - should work though --I've driven enough old cars in my time !!!!!.

    Cheers

    Thanks for your reply, firebird..

    I am not making mp3 CDs. I am using a Roxio Creator 10 procedure that will put up to 11 albums on a CD, which can then be played on some but not all car CD players. Such discs are playable in one of our cars but not in the other. I was successful in producing a number of music collections in this way. I have no idea what the file format is.

    The problem is that Roxio Creator 10 is a very old program and hasn't survived the latest Win 10 update. I haven't been able to discover whether later versions of Roxio Creator can do a jukebox CD. I am hoping that someone might know whether later versions of Roxio Converter can 'jukebox'. Info about later Roxio Converter versions is vague. I will try to get help from Roxio. I haven't contacted them in the past.

    If I can't succeed with getting info on later Roxio products, perhaps I could get a USB port installed in the car I have been using for playing jukebox CDs. Adding a USB port to a car that doesn't have one is tricky but apparently can be done. However, the auto sound crew that I have used in the past aren't very keen on trying to do it..

    Hi there
    @stony41

    Another possibility is you can get a mini FM transmitter (might not be legal where you are - but these are very low powered) -- it will take output from phone headphone socket and send an FM signal which you can then play on Car radio -- the FM signal is fine for the car -- won't be strong enough to cause interference outside the vehicle. From what I remember the frequency is around 90Mhz so tune your FM radio to that.

    Must admit though apart from MP3 format I've no idea how you could get the equivalent of several audio cd's on to 1 cd -- no idea of the player.

    Sorry, fireberd. Got your name wrong.

    Thanks, Jimbo, for suggesting winamp. I have heard about it but have never tried it.

    Putting 11 albums on a CD must be MP3, as standard wav file Audio CD's can't hold that much. That is probably the reason one car can play them and the other cannot as its not MP3 compatible. The player must be MP3 compatible.

    Check out the suggested CDBurnerXP since it sort of works like Roxio. I used to use Roxio years ago but abandoned it due to many bugs. I now use Nero but its not free.

    In my experience the FM transmitters are a pain in a moving vehicle. Because of the occasional stronger signals over riding the transmitter I had to continually change the frequency that it used to transmit.

    The maximum capacity for an audio CD is 74 minutes of music. Those must be some really short albums to be put onto an audio CD. I'm afraid you ARE making MP3 discs which will only play in auto CD players made to accept MP3 discs.

    Sorry, but jukebox CDs are definitely a feature of Roxio Creator 10. I have six such CDs in one of my cars. They all have 10 or 11 full albums on them. The problem is that I have yet to discover if this feature is still available in later Roxio Creator versions. I have a query with Roxio at the moment.

    Unfortunately the latest version of Win 10 has killed jukeboxing and I cannot reinstall the software.

    MP3 is not involved.
