    Troubles with search

    Hi

I haven noticed that there are a lot of people having troubles with the search app after upgrading to Windows 10. Since the threads are spread all over the forum it is kind of difficult to keep an overview of just how many people are actually affected. That's why I created this thread.

Now what I would like you to do is the following: Post in this thread if you are currently experiencing troubles with Windows search or If you used to have problems with it but those problems could be fixed. Please provide the following info

    • Windows 10 or Windows 10 Pro, 32 bit or 64 bit
    • Upgraded or clean install
    • From what Windows version did you upgrade
    • Description of the problem
    • Resolved or not, if resolved how
    • Is Cortana enabled or disabled on your system, does the search's behaviour change if you enable/ disable Cortana?
    • Any other info that might be useful like error messages, event logs, what measures have you already taken to resolve the issue...

Please don't post if you haven't got an problems with search. We already know that most people are not affected by this.

    Ok, I'll start:

    • Windows 10 pro 64 bit
    • Upgraded from 8.1 Pro
    • After some time the search button becomes inactive, clicking it does nothing at all. I can reactivate search by terminating the saerch.exe process but after running for a while search becomes unresponsive again
    • Not resolved
    • Cortana is disabled, cannot enable it in Switzerland
    • Envent log error message here

I have already tried running sfc/scannow, cleaning out the registry, deleting temporary files (also from search)... all to no avail.

Why doesn't search find my files? I have a folder c:\utils where I have small programs that don't have to be installed (portable apps). I changed indexing to find files in this folder, did a rebuild but when I type a name of a program in this folder (c:\utils) nothing comes up. Why?
I have a clean install of W10 build 10240 (RTM).
