How about doing a partition backup copy with Macrium Reflect or similar and then doing a clean Windows installation?
Interestingly, the error discussed in this thread was absent for many months. Can't say why.
Now, with a new motherboard, it has resurfaced. Armoury Crate is not installed, nor is it or Updatechecker found in the BIOS. The .exe is generated by UEFI on the MB.
A definitive solution to block ASUSUpdateCheck or its Event Viewer error message remains elusive...

In the BIOS, under advanced | tool, disable Q-installer.

In this case, the installer had an icon in the notification area which appeared to invite installation. It offered a "never show this again" option.
That option wasn't taken with the new MB, but may have been on the old (same models). This would explain why, prior to the failure of the original MB, that the Event Viewer error had not appeared for several months.
Perhaps "never show" disables Q-Installer.
