I have a Windows 10 laptop (upgraded from Windows 8) and everything is working ok on my account. I created a 2nd "family" account/sign-in for my Dad and when logging into his part of my laptop the start button & task bar does not work. Only the desktop icons are clickable. Not even clicking the clock in the lower right corner pops up the time & calendar. I'm completely incapable of accessing settings, file explorer, apps, etc from his account, but every thing is working fine on my side. I have his account/sign-in as "administrator" but still not working. (I've tried the PowerShell remedy & .bat file remedy suggested on this thread to no avail, please help).
This seems to be a very common problem - nearly everyone I know with Windows 10 has experienced it at least once.
The solution I've always found works:
Use Safe Mode. You probably can't enter safe mode with the old fashioned method of pressing F8 during boot - instead, from your desktop, press Windows Key/R > type 'msconfig' . click 'OK', select second tab 'Boot', tick 'Safe Boot', click 'OK' and restart.
Your computer will restart in Safe Mode (with Start button and taskbar working) - now repeat the procedure above but untick 'Safe Boot'.
Hopefully you're back to normal!
I'm new so don't know if it's OK to mention another forum but here goes.
The Moderator of the Microsoft Community forum covering this aspect alerted users to the problem ELEVEN weeks ago but still Microsoft have been unable to sort it out. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...a-c4d6df0544ac
There are many threads here on this problem but I'd like to ask in this thread is this blasted problem only affecting PCs upgraded to Win10 from Win7/8 or is it affecting new Win10 PCs? If it is, I'll be hacked off having just bought a new Win10 laptop. "Not fit for purpose" = should not have been offered for sale, perhaps. I'll check that out later!
