I have no problems with Windows 10. Start menu works great. Just did a clean install on my new hard drive and system, running Windows 10 1511 10586.104 X64.

I wonder why the start menu and taskbar is such a nuisance on some computers

As a new member here, I stupidly trusted this .bat file. After it ran, I lost internet connectivity. My first thought was ransom-ware, but with no ability to get back here, I was stuck with a 'driver problem' on my wifi adapter. I ended up doing a System Restore to 6 hours previous and thankfully it worked. Although on one hand I am angry, on the other hand I am relieved to know the restore works. I had never used it in my life. The reason for this post is to warn everybody else to be careful. I should mention I have tried approx. 6 different fixes for the start button problem, none of which have helped. Thanks AveYo
I don't know why that bat file was posted, as that should never be deployed among systems that are different than the one he made it from. That will destroy the registry and mess up programs that are installed on the system.

It's sad to see users having Windows 10 issues. Looks like on this thread I would love to give input but it does seem like everyone has posted every possible fix out there.

Thanks lmaneke - I go to and participate on many forums (ie Microsoft, Google, HP etc) ,and should have known better, I was just frustrated with all the attempts that did not work, that I took a leap here. The thought of being offered a 'fix' to undo it had me upset. It was my fitst visit to this site. I appreciate your acknowledgement that I'm not completely crazy.

    You're very welcome.

Now, I'm looking over your system specifications as of now, and shocking to say, over 90% of the systems having these issues with Windows 10, are all revolved around Intel platforms. Funny enough, I was in Walmart and saw an Acer laptop that had a core I5 processor with a 500 GB SSD, and as I was looking at it, just to see if that laptop did the same thing as another person had posted here on the forums, guess what, the Start button and taskbar didn't work. Told a Walmart associate, and they told me that laptop was for display purposes only. Um OK, nobody's going to buy it if it don't work right. Lol

Did Windows 10 come preinstalled on your laptop?

I have a desktop custom built PC that I assembled my self. It's an AMD build, and I have no problems with my system.

I don't know the answer to that other then Microsoft is aware, and if you Google 'Start button don't work' there are lots of ideas about how to fix it. I'm just hoping MS comes up with something soon. Cortana doesn't work either.

Yes this new HP did have Widows 10 pre-installed. Maybe I'll get my previous Dell out to see if it is working or not, it had AMD. That Walmart story is classic.

Lol yeah it was pretty funny.

What kind of AMD is it? If it's like an Athlon X2 or something like that "I know, quite old, Vista and 7" it should be able to run the OS just fine.

I don't remember which AMD is in the Dell. I did the free upgrade (from 7) to Win 10 on it before my dog smashed the keyboard and I replaced the machine. Before I got paralyzed I would have replaced the keyboard, It ran better with 4gb of RAM then this i6 with 8gb does.

Sorry to hear you are paralyzed.

You know it's funny when I hear an older machine runs better than a new one. Music to my ears. Lol. I have a few older machines that run Windows 8 and 10 perfectly fine. :)
