    Duplicate Icon in Taskbar

    Hi,

One of my pinned items on the taskbar (MusicBee) refuses to act properly. It always shows two instances of the icon when the program is open.

I tried unpinning the items, opening the program from it's folder and then right-click > Pin to taskbar but that creates a duplicate icon as well.

I also checked C:\Users\MYNAME\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar for duplicate shortcuts but there is only one.

    Any ideas?

What I didn't read you did was uninstall/reinstall. Try uninstalling then reinstalling the program and see what happens.

Tried removing and re-installing, did not help unfortunately.
After that, I tried running it in Compatibility Mode for Windows Vista, 7, 8 but that didn't work either.

Funny thing is: it worked fine after my upgrade from 7 to 10 but it started acting this way when I accidentaly unpinned it and then repinned it.

Maybe the program just acts funny on Windows 10, hasn't been updated since October 2014.

Same thing happens with iTunes and the one icon is a program icon and the other that appears is a UI icon when the program is opened but, nobody has figured out, (as of yet), why the two have to 'hang' on the taskbar when the program is open.

I don't think it just specific programs. It's doing this with every single one, so im going to assume its just a bug in windows 10.

    Hi NekoBlue,
I think you're right. It seems to be a bug in Windows 10 pinning algorithm in connection with some program properties. In Windows 8.x I was successful to solve this issue by unpinning the program and pinning the spawned icon of running program. Now this trick doesn't work anymore.
I've detected that the program Cyberlink doesn't show the mentioned effect on my desktop but on my notebook. So I've copied the Registry Key HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Taskband to my notebook and all was fine there. The REG_BINARY value Favorites is in connection with the folder %AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar\ mainly responsible for pinned items.

On my desktop I've performed an upgrade from 8.1 to 10 leaving all programs and pinned items in place. So pinned Cyberlink item was taken over to Windows 10. You'll find a backup created with Taskbar Pinned Apps - Backup and Restore in Windows 10 (Taskbar Pinned Apps - Backup and Restore in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums)
