Yesterday I updated my Acer Aspire V5-122P-0679 and it was constantly freezing. I went to the Acer site and found a newer bios update. I was hoping that the update would solve my problem but it didn't. After trial and error I found that my problem was caused by the updated driver for my video card. I uninstalled it and my laptop is working ok.

I spent all weekend trying to get my V5-122P working again due to the video card driver. However, after rolling back the driver, how do you prevent the driver from being reinstalled? It tries to keep reinstalling the driver again and again. I have to keep the laptop offline in order to keep it working!!!
I checked the Control Panel -> System -> Advanced Settings -> Hardware -> Device Installation Settings to "No". but to no avail. The driver update also does not show in the installed updates, so it is not possible to remove and hide the update.

What seems to work for me was to select disable in device manager instead of removing it. This will enable a generic driver. You lose settings and the ability to use Sleep but the laptop will stop freezing. I also noticed when using the updated drivers the CPU usage was over 38% and some times around 90%.

I think I may have the problem solved. First I let Windows Update update the video card back to the latest driver. Then I uninstalled it in device manager. Then I ran wushowhide and selected to stop the video driver update. next I used Brink's link to manually download the driver. I ran the installer and a older driver(2013) was installed but wouldn't run. While trying to decide what to do the driver updated automatically (09/16/2016) driver version 21.19.137.1. So far it seems to be running ok. I still need to do some testing.

After testing I still have the freezing problem. I tried the latest beta diver and that made the screen to keep flashing. Unless I can find a working driver I'll keep it disabled and use the generic driver. Glad it's only a spare laptop.

    Hello boys.
I tell them that I downloaded the latest update AMD Catalyst driver and FIX and since then it has been frozen only 1 time. Coincidentally there is an event of suscesos Device Manager specifically on the device Video Card. Has anyone seen these events?
The PC and takes 48 hours without freezing. I hope it stays that way.

My friend did a team viewer remote and said my problem might be the nvidia video card causing it.
Updated the card will report back in 5 days

I tried every AMD driver I could find. Even the newest with the hot fix and I still had a freezing problem. It would work ok for awhile then start freezing. In task manager I always had high CPU usage every time I was using any of the AMD drivers. Since I switched to the MS generic driver I don't have the freezing problem. Except for not having the sleep option in Power Options everything seems to be ok. This is on a little Acer Aspire V5-122P-0679 that I mainly use for stuff like web browsing when I'm relaxing in my easy chair so I can live with it.

Hello Friend,Well, I have not tried using the generic MS driver. It should not make sense but you know how it is these of Microsoft. My pc has had more stability but still hangs about 1 once a day or reaches 2 days well ... The last change I made (yesterday) was pagefiles.sys move the file to another hard drive and place the same size the RAM. I'm in the testing phase. For now fine. regards

@RWE . I finally found a solution that worked for me to get a working AMD driver for my Acer Aspire. I used wushowhide to stop the automatic driver update. Then I made sure I was using the generic driver for my video card. I deleted everything that had anything to do with AMD. I used IObit Uninstaller (free) Then I used Brinks link to download the legacy driver for my card. Latest AMD Catalyst Graphics Driver for Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums When I ran the installer I chose Custom and deselected everything except the driver and the one you can't deselect. After the install and a reboot I'm using driver 15.200.1062.1004 (08/03/2015) and no more lockups and very low CPU usage. Hope this helps you. I know it's a older driver but it works.
