I'm willing to try that but I'm not computer literate... what are the detailed steps
My comment was really just throwing an idea into the pot for the IT professionals to comment on. You will need someone familiar with your computer as the instructions vary from motherboard to motherboard.

With mine it required resetting the bios by relocating a jumper on the board and installing the new software from a USB pen. As you are using a Dell laptop This link may be of help.

    Good luck!

Been reading all the pages of this thread and I have the same problem with random lockups. I have found my LG DVD drive was causing errors in the Event Viewer and I have unplugged the drive and haven't had any lockups for hours till I plugged my DVD drive back in and I got a lockup. Check the Event Viewer it does help, thanks for all the info it has helped
Same Issue with LG DVD drive unplugged it and been running for 4 days no lock ups.
LG DVD Super Multi DVD writer
    mn# GH24NSC0
    ROM VER# LK00

We have deployed close to 50 computers this year with this dvd writer and all of them that are running windows 10 seem to be having this issue. No issues with the computers running windows 7.

LG just released a new version of this drive same model number but different rom. We are in the process of testing it to see if we have any more freezes.

My laptop is a HP Pavilion G60 notebook. It's frequently freezing on Windows 10. Ironically, there was nothing when I checked Windows 10's updates on the manufacturer's website, shown below:
HP Software and Driver Downloads for HP Printers, Laptops, Desktops and More | HP® Customer Support

After reading following Aerialslayer's note on reddit,

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/c...uter_randomly/
I got it!! Long story short ...Spent all weekend updating my new Windows 7. Once I got all updates and made sure my drivers were good to go. Installed windows 10. Took 8 hours to fully install. Now I am in Windows 10 and it's working wonderfully!!

I re-checked HP's website by selecting "Windows 7" instead of "Windows 10", boom, there were full of updates. Instead of installing Win7 and updating drivers before installing Windows 10 like his/her way, I am going to update above Windows 7 drivers available from the manufacturer directly on Windows 10, which should do the trick.

Unfortunately in 90% cases the best solution is to clean reinstall Windows 10. Especially if it has been migrated to from another OS...

So far the new ROM version Lg drive is working with no issues. Have not had a lock up yet.
Also on all of the computers we are having this issue on are clean installs of Windows 10 build 10586
The install was probably 10511 but has been updated since then to 10586
    The new lg drive is
    model number gh24nsc0
rom ver. LI00 that is Li00

The way we have come to the conclusion it was the DVD drive. We slowly replaced all the parts on the one machine that it was locking up on the most frequently. The last part we could replace and the most unlikely was the dvd drive. Just had a report of another computer with the same issue. Going to replace that drive and see if it solves the problem as well.

    Specs:
    Gigabyte B150M-D3H GSM
    I5 OR I7 6600 6700K
    2X 8GB CRUCIAL DDR4 : {Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB 2 x 8GB DDR4-2400 (PC4-19200) Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit}
BOTH SAMSUNG EVO 256G AND OCZ R7 480G SSD SATA
    LG: GH24NSC0 DVDRW
CM 550 ELITE V2 POWER SUPPLYS
    using integrated graphics

We have noticed the computers that we are using Samsung 950 pro 256g M.2 ssd we have not had any issues with yet.

Hi! I have been getting these random freezes a couple of times now which locks up the entire system and forces me to do a hard restart and i have tried EVERYTHING to resolve it, but no luck. I tried updating all drivers to the newest, did a sfc /scannow which repaired all the corrupt files, firmware update of HDD and defragging the HDD.
I know there is nothing wrong with my hardware because this ONLY happens in Windows 10 and not in Windows 8.1. This is the 2nd time i'm installing Windows 10 to see if the issue was resolved somehow, but nope. Also tried with a upgrade and with a clean install 2 times.

Does anyone have any tips or fixes for this? It's really starting to drive me crazy..
[/QUOTE] I have an Win 10 and what I do to unfreeze Win 10 is CTR+ALT+DEL, then I select Task Manager and bring Task Manager up, and then I find my running browser I use, which in my case is the Chrome browser and double-click that entry, this brings up a sub-browser entry in the Task Manager window, and then I double-clicked on the Chrome sub-browser entry, that got me back to the browser at least. Without having to Restart my Windows 10, which was becoming tiresome. Hope this helps! I haven't checked if this brings me access to my other open applications without having to restart Windows 10. Windows 10 is very stable. You are having these issues because of your hardware. You can do one of these:
    1) Check all your add-in cards and RAM, and clean the connecting points.
    2) Usually it's the graphic card which is very heavy. If you have a tower, and it's standing upright, the card will be leaning downwards. At some point, this might disconnect and cause your computer to hang. Prop it up with something stable, and your problem will go away. Otherwise, lay your tower case on the side, and your graphic card will not lean so much.
    3) Don't move your computer. Even a slight touch might disrupt your connections.
    4) Old computers or old components tend to cause this because of the connectors.
    Good luck.

There are people who have had freezing issues on brand new computers. I haven't had any freezing issues on mine. Very stable
