    Hey everyone !

Just pitching my tent here as I've just run into the same issues. I'm not sure what caused it, but thats 2 freezes today... I've uninstalled the latest batch of updates just in case.

I read somewhere that increasing the virtual memory could help. Any feedback on that ? I'm not sure how to properly dimension it so I havent tried yet...

I'd rather not go back to 8.1 as I was really starting to like Win10...

Signed up to say I'm in the same boat. It's been smooth sailing since launch but started going wonky today. It's been acting exactly as you described dagnabbit.
I used: Fix: Start Menu Cortana not Opening in Windows 10 this morning and it hasn't hung since. I was able to get to the task manager when things froze up one time and saw the status for Windows Shell Experience Host process was "Not Responding."

Not sure if this will solve everyone else's problem but I thought I'd run this by y'all since it worked for me.

Let us know if it stays fixed.

I read somewhere that the freezing was more than likely the result of explorer.exe crashing. I'm not exactly sure now where I read this though as have been all over the place looking for solutions. The common theme seemed to be that this issue affects machines with multiple HDDs but this may just be a coincidence of course.

Don't think we have any common components. My os is on a 250gb SSD and I have two SATA drives in my PC for data. There isn't any os remnants on these.
hm maybe we use same software components? I am using Kaspersky Anti Virus and Acronis True Image 2015...

I'm in this same boat. I've done just about everything I could find regarding this issue and no luck. I know it isn't hardware related because everything worked on 8.1 fine but after 2 clean installs on separate brand new hard drives the issue persists. After any where from 5 minutes to 24 hours my computer will freeze entirely no matter what I'm doing. The audio will either stop or stutter on the last sound made. The mouse freezes and the keyboard as well as whatever is showing on screen so a total freeze basically. If i unplug the peripherals and plug them back in the backlit buttons on the mouse keyboard and headset dont come back on. Forced to do a hard reset. Sometimes it happens while playing a game, quitting out of a game, watching YouTube, searching Google on any browser(Edge, Chrome,Firefox,IE), looking through my file explorer or even just sitting at desktop. All drivers are up to date and all updates installed. Hardly any programs downloaded. No antivirus and nothing particularly strange showing in event viewer. BIOS up to date
    FX-6300 CPU
    970-G46 Motherboard
    R9 270x GPU
    8gb RAM
1x 1TB WD Blue Hard Drive

I increased my swap file to 8 Gigabyte fixed, the system works now since 3 hours without any problems, keep you up to date...

(for me it looks like an disk write problem, it seems that any processes freeze when they try to write (or also read?) data to (from) disk. that's the reason why some processes are still responding, others not)

still no solution. I noticed that the system freezes within minutes if there is a lot of disk io (eg. acronis true image backup or a large filecopy action)...

the next problem: some programms (texteditor, smart svn client) lost their settings to default, maybe this is caused by the frequent hardresets...

it has to be a hardware/driver issue, it's to rare to be a windows 10 bug: let's try to identifie common hardware components?

    My System:
Mainboard: Asus P8Z77-V LX (Z77 Chipset) with latest Chipset Drivers from Asus Homepage
    Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium HD
256GB Crucial MX200 SSD (Boot Disk)
    480GB Crucial BX100 SSD
    2TB Western Digital Green
    Razer Imperator Mouse
    Cherry Keyboard
MSI Geforce GTX 770 Graphics Card

    Software:
    Kaspersky Antivir 2015
    Acronis True Image 2015
