    Unhandled Extension Handler Finder?

    Hi
I noticed an oddity in File Explorer in that all my image files (JPG, TIF) are labelled under Type as 'Unhandled Extension Handler Finder'.
Now first off it doesn't appear to be causing a problem - I can 'Open with' various image viewers & graphics software perfectly fine as well as 'Save as' to a variety of types.
I've done full scans for viruses & malware with no result. I've been to Settings/Default apps/Choose default applications by file type & changed things around with no problem but none of the above resolves the oddity.
    Should I be concerned?

Check what is set in Control Panel, Default Programs for the image file types like jpg, png, etc.

Yup, I already did that in 'Choose default applications by type'.
JPG, PNG & TIF are set to Windows Photo Viewer but beneath item in the list of file types Windows lists their default application.
For example .PDF has a description of Adobe Acrobat Document followed by the application - in that case it is of course Adobe Acrobat Reader.
However, .PNG (& other common graphic files) is described as Unhandled Extension Handler Finder followed by the application Windows Photos Viewer.
I can readily change the default application but it makes no difference to the description/type: Unhandled Extension Handler Finder

What about doing a Reset to the Microsoft recommended defaults from Set your program defaults in Control Panel?

Yes, I already tried that but it makes no difference.
I've been attempting to find any problems it may cause but so far there doesn't seem to be any. It seems to be a rare issue as Google search brings up almost nothing. It's just a bit weird & obviously wrong but I can live with it.
    Thanks for suggestions.

However, it is a problem because it prevents me from sorting by type. There seems to be little or nothing about this anywhere. Do I get an "I've found an undocumented bug in Windows 10" T-shirt?

OK, well the cause of this problem is due to the attempt to restore the sadly missed 'Windows Photo Viewer'. The procedure as outlined in TenForums tutorial: 'Restore Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 10' causes image file types to be listed as 'Unhandled Extension Handler Finder.
It's a damn shame because I much prefer 'Photo Viewer' over 'Photos'.
If there's another method of restoring 'Photo Viewer' without the file type problem I'd be happy to hear it.
    Thanks folks.

Then again, the problem is only caused if you use the method of restoring Photo Viewer for a single account. However, using the method for all accounts seems to work fine.
    TenForums to the rescue again.
    Than you all.

So now I have Photo Viewer back but there's an oddity or two.
Firstly if I double click on a JPG or a TIFF then they open in Photo Viewer. However, if I double click on a TIF then it opens in Photos.
Viewing a folder of photos in File Explorer using Details view the type description for JPGs is 'JPG File', for a TIF file it's 'TIF File' but for a TIFF file it's 'Unhandled Extension Handler Finder'.
Of course, I can batch rename all my TIF files as TIFF files & then I can use Photo Viewer to view all my photos, albeit at the loss of the correct reporting of file type
    Hey Ho!

Neat, thanks for that. I had tried the single account reg hack and it did nothing. The All hack works a treat as you said. Now I can switch between Photos, which I do like and Windows Photo Viewer, which I also like, or Irfanview.
