I have managed to lock up my Surface book

Well I did it... I got into trouble with Bit Locker as I cannot find the key (don't ask). I worked with MS support to no avail. I even tried a couple of services, the same thing, All need to do is have my solid state drive wiped. Since all is backed up on my main machine there is not much to lose. I have a thumb drive with the latest Win 10 (1805) recovery form Microsoft. I have spent a week with various services but have not found a solution.
In my search for a repair service the only one that I have found is MS and from their -website there is no indication of a repair for doing what I need. I plan to call MS and other services to see if they have a reasonable fix.

    Hi John

Is it your intention to clean install windows on Surface.

If so I would research how to boot to boot menu and then with your recovery key reload windows. Here is one example, this article talks to resetting and or re-installing

    I beat BitLocker

Actually, Ken, I was trying to get out of BitLocker which I managed to get stuck in. I did not remember having the required key to bypass. BTW bitLocker while running will not allow anything to run while it is enguaged and I mean 'anything' you are stuck. I made many many calls to Microsoft support but could not get them to understand. Finally on my last call I reached Tech support. Prior to that my step son wa also doing dome research and came up with this site.

Why my surface pro asks for BitLocker recovery key? - Super User
From that site, I got this URL which was the lifesaver.

Sign in to your Microsoft account

After signing into My MS account I was able to retrive my 40 character key to get into BitLocker and correct my problem. I was down a week.

I now have my key stored in many places.

I hope this helps other users with this issue

    That is excellent news.

Yes I think it stores / backups in your Onedrive section of account. Is that where you found yours?
