So does anyone have any idea if Microsoft has figured out this massive bug?

Even will all the proper indexing few of my other PCs are unable to get search working properly.
I have tried reinstalls and everything.

Sometimes the start menu also does not open and shit.
Or if it does, search shows nothing but a black start menu.

Microsoft has announced that they are working on it. There are tons of threads on this bug, and the consensus is that it affects systems that have more than 512 items in the start menu, and anything over 512 gets excluded.

I've found a workaround for the Windows 10 Search bug (the bug which causes missing installed shortcuts in Windows 10 Search, missing EXEs, etc). Feel free to try it - it works for me. You can find my written guides (posted as "ThePhinx") here: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...df0d82e?page=2

Also, you can view the Youtube video I created demonstrating the workaround here: http://youtu.be/F1lnl2nHgfs

Let me know if this works for you too. All the best.

I've been having the same issues. For days, on a clean install, "Check for Updates", system settings would appear when I would hit start and type 'updates'. Now, it's not showing up anymore. I'm seeing a Java "Check for Updates" now, which is not what I want. Maybe because the title is the same, it won't show me both....but this isn't convenient.

I'm going to try rebuilding the index.

    My experience

Just wanted to update this thread in case it's helpful:
I'm upgraded in place from Windows 7 (not a fresh install)

I DO see the shortcuts created in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs when I install something.
I DO NOT see anything in "All apps", and "Windows Key > Start typing" doesn't bring up anything either.

I've added C:\ProgramData to index locations, deleted and rebuilt the index, restarted, and still no go. I did notice that although the index dialogue from Control Panel says "Index completed" the Windows 10 start menu says "These results may be incomplete, search is still indexing your stuff."

That is just how it works at the moment. I have the same on clean install.

I opened a thread here Program files (.exe) not found by Windows Search - Windows 10 Forums but it went nowhere (except finding it is a general issue). It is pretty absurd that search filters out .exe (even if they are in the index) but it does. You can still search using the File explorer or the old Windows 8 style fly-out search but not the new search.

You can add the shortcuts you want to start (as you said) but this still reduces the usefulness of the search somewhat as you had to know and remember to add one in the first place.

There are lots of complaints on the Feedback app - you could add a "me too".

Ah right. I do see in that directory a shortcut called "Search" that pops open a rt-hand-side search that DOES work. I'm assuming that's the "old" Windows 8 search you're talking about. Cool, I'll just stick that into the taskbar. THANKS.
