Which version of Windows 10, to use just mainly for a Plex dedicated

Hi all I am doing a fresh install of Windows 10 on a new ssd drive. I do not want all the bloat ware like cortanna and other apps that I do not need. I am just mainly want to use it for Plex. Could someone Please point me to a version of Windows 10 to use for this.

And just one other question do I need to find all the software for my computer when I do a new install or does windows take care of that. I was told that it does.

    Thanks

Windows will supply as much of that stuff as it can. Should be enough to get you up and running.

Before the install, you might go the your motherboard manufacturer's web site and download all drivers available for your specific model............but you might never have to use them.

If all of your stuff works OK with what Windows has already installed by default, there's no over-riding reason to use any of the stuff from the motherboard maker. Worry about that later. Look in Device Manager and see if anything appears to be missing (yellow exclamation points). Make sure all of your hardware works as expected.

Not sure about Plex. Your choices are Home or Pro. I'd dig into the Plex website and see what they specify.

If you have a Dell, you'd go to Dell's web site for the drivers. May not need any of it.

First off, If you do an in-place upgrade, you'll be able to keep all you programs and app. If you do a clean install you'll need to reinstall all your programs and app.

Edit: Plex (Media Server) can be used on any version of Windows 10. The Plex "Player" appears to require a 64-bit Windows 10 OS. I'm currently running the sever version on my NAS drive, and the Player on my Windows 10 desktop.

I have done fresh installs before but its been probably over 20 years. I do not need all the old programs and things that I have put on this computer, since I just want to use it for plex. And would like to clean all the junk that I have put on it over the years.
I am in the process of downloading all the programs that I think I will still use. (new versions)

I am asking about which version of windows 10 to use because there are so many out there. Last time I did an new install I think there were only a few versions.

    Thanks.

The Plex Windows server is a 32-bit application that runs on ANY version of Windows, Win 7 SP1 or newer.

The Plex Windows client is a 64-bit application that runs on Windows 10 only. I personally use a Roku as my Plex client of choice.

There is no advantage to running Plex server on Windows Pro over Home, either will work fine.

Plex supports many OS platforms including NAS. The issue with a NAS is that many of them (including mine) don't have particularly powerful cpus so they don't do well with transcoding and such. When I was running Plex on my NAS, I saw lots of stalling, stuttering and downright failure when watching some of my movies. I switched my Plex server to a Windows machine withe an i7 cpu and 8GB RAM (overkill) but now I never see any stalling or stuttering.

One of the main reasons I am asking, is that I do not want Cortana or other apps installed. I just want a lean system for using Plex.

    Thanks

For everyday normal users there are basically only two versions of Windows 10 - Home and Professional (Pro). Both version coming in either 32 or 64-bit.

What confuses users are the various builds within Windows 10 family (1709, 1803, 1809, 1903, 1909 being the latest version).

You've not said where you're getting Windows 10 from and this may have some bearing on what you get. Example, if you're upgrading from say Windows 7 Home, 32-bit and took the free upgrade route, you're going to get Windows 10 Home, 32-bit. That's because Windows 10 will only give you the version you previously had - Home to Home, Pro to Pro, 32 to 32, 64 to 64.

If you're buying a disk, you've the option of Home or Pro. I've not bought Windows 10 myself being I took advantage of the free upgrades, but I believe the store bought versions offer both 32 and 64 bit offerings in the same package.

Regardless, when you install Windows it will (should) upgrade to the latest build available - currently 1909 build 18363.535

Sorry, but Cortana is a built in app that gets installed with Windows regardless of the version installed. However these apps can be disabled if you like - How to Enable or Disable Cortana in Windows 10. There are many tutorial here on how to disable apps on Windows 10.
