I now know that Kaspersky does have to be updated, regardless.

A prompt to turn off any firewalls before downloading windows 10 would have been nice, though.

I'm still undecided on keeping windows 10.

Thanks again for your help, guys.

Using ctrl-shft-esc, I do get task manager. There are no running apps.
Please click the "more details" box at the bottom on the box that claims no running tasks. You'll get a bunch of 'em. Then click on the column heading "CPU" to cause the list to be sorted. Tell us the name of any that have "big" numbers. I usually go into the View menu, "Update speed", and change it to "Low"...otherwise the list changes too quickly for one to focus on it.

I'm not sure she understands that she doesn't need to launch Kaspersky to uninstall it.

No, she doesn't at all. I think she was afraid to try anything.
I was worried if her Kaspersky wasn't the problem, then she might be infected by something she D/L'ed to fix her 'puter.

Now that she say's she has help coming, I dread its not the G. Squad !

    Hello again.

The help I got was simply to remove Kaspersky for windows 7 & install the new version for windows 10. No geek squad.
Actually, my guy said you guys are the best for help with windows 10 glitches.

I am using my laptop, but it's continually freezing up, so I'm still having issues with windows 10.

The task manager now comes up with 2 apps running, google chrome & task manager, & 31 background processes. I would never dream of trying to change anything on my own, because I don't know what I'm doing. :)

Art, you mentioned an issue with "one drive". If you have the patience, I'm willing to try & follow your lead. I don't expect immediate assistance, especially on a long weekend, so I'll check back a few times each day.

    I appreciate the help.
