Microsoft 10 and Microsoft Links 2003

I have enjoyed playing this Microsoft Links 2003 game for many years. Initially in Vista and then upgraded to Win 8 where I played it successfully. Since buying my new Dell Inspiron computer with a Win 10 operating system I am able to download the game but then when I try to start it I find that I can't open the programme and play it..

Does it give any kind of error or does it just not start?

Try running it in Windows XP compatibility mode by right clicking on the shortcut then selecting "Properties". Go to the Compatibility tab, check the box next to "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and select Windows XP. Checking "Run this program as administrator" in the same tab might help as well.

Keep in mind that that game is almost 13 years old, so it may just not be compatible anymore.

    MS 10 and MS Links2003

Many thanks for taking an interest by replying.
Relevant error messages are that upon trying to run the programme a pop-up says 'Insert disk 2003#CD1 into your CD Rom drive.' I do so and get second message which says 'Links 2003 cannot verify your disk.'
I guess you're right to point out that this is a fourteen year old programme and having already tried the 'compatibility suggestions you made without any success I must reluctantly accept it can go no further except a short trip to the scrap can!!
    With thanks, fgc1993

Does links have securom or safedisc ? MS has screwed many of us over but ripping out the secdrv.sys driver from Windows 10 consigning a great number of games to the scrapheap. I hate securom/safedisc but what MS has done is too draconian.

I got a response from 'Links2003Countryclub' pro shop with a link to a download that when installed got me back up and running. I'm delighted and grateful for those who offered advice

Glad you got it running. The secdrv.sys thing is a real issue for those of us owning games released circa 2002-2009, games that would otherwise run on Windows 10 but for the move of MS. I had a tiger woods 08 golf game (among many others) affected. Had to resort to methods unlikely to be allowed in forum discussion to play a game I legitimately own and paid for. Anyway the main thing is your back on the fairway!

    cheers, Wayne

Glad to hear you got it working. I was coming in here to bring up the SecuROM thing, but I guess that's unnecessary now. Enjoy your golfing!

Hi I've recently brought a laptop & have installed links 2003. When launching I get the error message
    Stop : failed0x8007005 winerr_access is denied CocreateInstance (DirectPlayLobby3A)
Does anyone know what the problem is ?
    Many thanks :)
