star trek online below par perormance

so..I put startrek online through the paces tonight on the new hardware and one fact became readily apparent, no matter what graphics settings I chose, I was seeing below par performance and indeed even real noticable slowdowns at times. what options should I consider tweaking in the os, or the nvidia control panel, to boost performance?

additional information, while poking about the invidia control panel, I noticed its pulling 6gb shared memory..does that mean my onboard gpu is active and set to use as primary? now how do I go about making my gpu the primary?

Are you on a desktop or laptop? It might be defaulting to your on-board card. Since you have an nVidia card you can try and right-click the Star Trek icon and choose Run with graphics processor > and then your nVidia card.

I want to do a permanent switch, not tell it to every time.

Open your nVidia control panel and set it from there. It's in the manage 3D settings tab. Find the game and set it to default to the GPU you want.
