Game controller for Car race and flight simulator - total noob

    Hello,
I know nothing about video games, but want my 8 year old daughter to have the option to play some flight simulator and car race games. I saw there are a lot of free games from microsoft etc. So that should do. I also like to play with her, so may need 2 controllers. So far I just installed some free microsoft games and tried them out to play with the keyboard, which obviously is limiting. All our PCs have W10-64.

It looks like there are quite a lot of USB game controllers. Some examples i came across is this $80 PXN Racing wheel or this $40 Gameon Racing wheel dn this, but as you know there are thousands. As i said, i have no experience with any fo that. I don't mind to spend more $, but don't want to overspend given the occasional use of cheaper games ny an 8 year old. if we play a lot, i don't mind upgrading in some years. Some questions:

    1. What race wheel features do occasional players really need for typical features? I realize there are several options in feedback etc. but what is really needed?
    2. Can a PC game typically work with 2 race wheels?
    3. What joystick features are needed for flight simulators?
    4. What brands are good ones? I know Logitech has a lot of controllers, but I realize much PC hardware is produced in the same factory and then just re-labelled.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

    1. Steering Wheel, Shifters (Be it H-Shifter or paddle shift) and of course pedals (Clutch, Brake and Gas).
    2. Nope. A Game can only work with one race wheels.
    3. I'm not too good about this
    4. Logitech is pretty known for their G27 and G29 because of the value for it. There's Thrustmaster but it's kinda expensive.

Thanks for the feedback. Sad that one can only hook up one racing wheel. I envisioned myself racing with my daughter....

There are some racing games that do have split-screen multiplayer (DiRT 3 for example) but I'm not sure if it supports two steering wheel controllers.

One would think they should support 2 wheels. how else would they let 2 players play, unless the second player has t use the keyboard. On the other hand, I don't want to buy a second one just to try out

so i got the PXN wheel and it feels solid.

I noticed only very few of the free games (microsoft store) actually support the wheel and throttle). Some only support the wheel and require the keyboard for throttle. In games there don't seem to be settings to enable the controller.

I have the suspicion it may have something to do with X and D-impot mode? Or do most games just not support the wheel?

Alternatively, what would be games that for sure support wheel and throttle so I can really see if all wheel function work? I probably downloaded 20 free games from microsoft an none really works like a real car (with wheel, throttle and brake)

Forza Horizon supports it. There are some racing games in the microsoft store that are basically mobile applications so they do not natively support it.

Thanks, I'll check that out. I found a few more at MS after trying out a lot:
    - GT Racing 2: the real car experience
    - Asphalt 9: Legends

I noticed some are annoying in that they try to push some car upgrades for $ etc.

I use a Dualshock 4 with DS4Windows in conjunction with Windows 10, ever since my Xbox One bluetooth controller stopped working last month. It seems like every game I've tested works with it so far. It even has a accelerometer/gyroscope/motion sensor, so it works well with racing games. You could probably even use it as a steering wheel of sorts. The touchpad is really handy too. I like it better than the XBOne controller. Only downside is crap battery life, I replaced the internal 1000mah with a 2000mah, really simple mod. Also bought a external battery pack for emergency juice on the go.

I don't own a PS4, this controller is for use only with PC and my Android devices.

    Car simulators?

I have a good 10 years racing online PC car sims. Kitchen work surface, 3 screens, 900 Degree rotation, gears, clutch, the works. Was totally addicted. I have a few stupid old videos i can show you

SimBin is the company. Plus of course ISI. They both created a series of car sims over the last 15 years or more. My top sim has to be 'GT Legends', which i hammered it for a good 6 years. The main company 'SimBin' who created this game and many more, left 1000's of GTL users dumped with no access to any SimBin game hub.

Then, along came a bunch of German guys who managed to get all the software and rights from SimBin to continue running GT Legends. This was back in 2005/06 time. I stopped playing about 2012 after my 3rd broken G25 hehe. GT Legends though is still happily running from these guys with 6-8 online games servers running 24/7, online laps recorded, rankings, Teamspeak, everything. Community based with 1000's of mods and tracks. I think about 680 Tracks on GTL now. If you like historic cars, then you will love GTL.
I still hold some fastest laps on GT Legends from 2007/08/09 which will never be broken. My Altbier game name is the same as here, Pluginz

So these guys now basically run the whole show regarding most of the SimBin titles. They also run a few other company titles which you may of heard of before. Ive tried and played pretty much the whole lot over the years. I'll give you the main Altbierbude link, which also on the left side of webpage has all the other sister titles and web links.

    Altbierbude - Dein freundlicher GTL-Server - Home

My all time favourite list then,

    1. GT Legends (Simbin G Motor 2 engine)
    2. rFactor 2 (ISI engine. The very best physics engine)
    3. Assetto Corsa
    4. GTR 2 (Simbin G Motor 2 engine)
    5. rFactor (ISI G Motor 2 engine)
    6. SimRaceway (Another game same G Motor 2 engine)
    7. iRacing (Bloody expensive)
    8. GTR 1 (Simbin original physics)
    9. GTR Evo (Simbin)
    10. Race 07 (Simbin)
    11. Race (Simbin)
    12. Race Driver 2 (Codemasters) This is alot easier to play
    13. Race Driver 3 (Codemasters) Same, easier to play
    14. Toca (Codemasters)
    15. GPL (Papyrus)
    16. Nascar 2003 (Sierra)
    17. Project Gotham Racing series (almost forgot this)

And this is a couple of my videos. No eyefinity, just 1 screen.
