I'd be curious too. A lot of people who use USB keyboards and mice have this issue. I go around it by using a PS-2 Keyboard to get into windows, and then windows loads the USB drivers. It's quite possible you were able to log in and Windows automatically downloaded the drivers.

Many new systems don't have a PS-2 port, but they are included for problems just like this on most new machines, they usually have one PS-2 port that can be used for KB or Mouse in case Windows does not have a native driver on hand for the USB devices.

That was embarrassing! Serviced a client PC, using my USB kbd/mouse. Took it back and plugged in their PS2 kbd/mouse - nothing!
Back in workshop their devices started working straight away, then stopped! Is this really a good end to the last ever version of Windows?

Solution I found for non responsive keyboard

Hi I just updated to Windows 10 today and my laptop keyboard would not respond, nor would my mouse touch pad. I do use an external wireless mouse which did not have this issue luckily. Anyway I contacted a friend who works on my computer and here is what we did. I went to control panel, Then device manager, then keyboards, Click on keyboard and then double click on your keyboard. This brings up a screen with your keyboard properties. On this screen, select the driver tab. Click on uninstall near the bottom. Verify the uninstall and then you will need to restart your computer. Once I restarted somehow it automatically detected the driver for my keyboard and reinstalled it. After that it has worked fine.

Same.. windows 10 is bug full. First CD/DVD drive vanishes, then keyboard will not, work and finally the mouse is very erratic... most of the time. I found a fix for the dvd (Registry edit), had to get a new keyboard, (the Microsoft one works in another system but not the Win 10), I have tried a few mouses, (not mice), drivers etc device manager delete reboots. Something I may have to live with... for a time.
NO WONDER THEY ARE GIVING IT AWAY NO ONE WOULD BUY THE WIN 10 CRAP.

just to confirm that if your mouse or keyboard is a usb wireless device and over 5 years old it may not be compatible with windows 10 and will function erratically IE it will work one minute and not the next and is mainly Logitech mice and keyboards that are affected

My own personal findings are that it is not driver related at all and for me a complete mystery when all other mice and keyboards from Microsoft function spot on

i should also add that xp /vista/windows 7 /8.1 are not affected by this problem

I continue to experience issues with the external mouse and keyboard (lenovo wireless)
So frustrating! It is as though the mouse gets captured. Intermittent responsiveness and then freezing up. Timed games continue to count off seconds so I can never win on that level anymore. I have tried all the fixes in this thread. Drivers are up-to-date, etc. I am very close to ditching the whole thing and converting to Apple!

Well It seems like Windows 10 only acts this way on certain machines. I've installed it on many different machines with No Problem then all of a sudden Bang. One will do this...I think it might have something to do with older machines For some reason windows 10 doesn't like them. Sorry to hear that your still having problem.

I was able to resolve my issue. I started the computer and when Windows started to load, I interrupted power (did not shut off the computer using the start button, but physically unplugged it). If you are working with a laptop, you may have to pull the battery first. Then I did it a second time. After the second time, Windows booted in recovery mode. From there, I was able to do a system restore. Now my mouse and keyboard are working again. However, I'm afraid of what Windows 10 is going to do next... I have already had a number of issues with Windows 10 malfunctioning and am very frustrated by its fragility. I'm crossing my fingers.
I tried this on one PC, but I don't have keyboard or mouse to select the restore functions, I have no idea what else to try.

I use usb keyboard a nd mouse, tried with a wireless one and nothing works, it turns off right after it logs into win 10.

Keyboard only works on bios. Any idea what to do?

    Thanks
