I found the solution!..I turned off the multi gestures section of the mouse settings and made sure just scrolling was checked (which it was)...then i double clicked on the scrolling and a menu (for one finger scrolling) came up which showed that neither vertical or horizontal scrolling was checked by default...As soon as checked the box for vertical scrolling, then the dedicated right hand portion of the touchpad began to scroll up and down normally...

So, now i have the functions i need, tap, right hand vertical scrolling and of course both left and right touchpad buttons below the pad work as they did before...And this is with the touchpad driver that windows installed (i didn't need to play around at the toshiba website)....:)

I also had the problem with the ELAN touchpad single finger edge scroll not working. I loaded an older driver, but Windows update kept on installing its own driver. I fixed the problem by deleting the Windows 10 ELAN driver registry entries and then replaced it with the ELAN touchpad registry settings which I copied from my Windows 8.1 Samsung laptop. I rebooted and the single finger edge scroll worked again.

    One finger scroll

Hi, can I ask where I would find an old driver as I have just installed windows 10 and now can't one finger scroll and the option has been taken away but I really want it back and where could I get the old registry settings and delete the old one as you did? But I'm afraid I will more than likely be a total noob so try not to be too technical! Thanks

    Hi,

You can try the product support page for the particular laptop you are using to find older drivers for Win7/8.1, but it also depends on the age of the laptop.

The registry settings for the Elan drivers can be found here: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Elantech

    Hi,

I installed the driver and all works fine but does what it has to you so what do I do with the registry settings for the driver? Where can I find the old one? And do I replace with the one below? Thanks

    New Synaptics Toshiba Drivers 7-Aug-2015

    Works!

New drivers from Toshiba released yesterday:

    http://support.toshiba.com/support/viewContentDetail?contentId=4002846

I tried the adding the DWORD to my registry proposed solution elsewhere and that did not work for me.

2-finger scroll worked before the new driver but not 1-finger scroll. Now both work. A Reboot is required. 168 MB file takes a while to download.

    Enjoy having your scroll back,

I made the mistake of purchasing a Sony Vaio for £990 about 6 weeks prior to Sony stopping making computers. Updated to Windows 10 and not much works at all, including the touch pad. They have no updates available and no intention of producing any as far as I have been able to find out. The touch pad just does not work, with the screen quickly switching from large icons to small ones and jiggling about all over the place, making it impossible to use. Luckily I have two desktops, so I will be reverting to window 7 ultimate on my laptop - hopefully. I suppose that there is little chance of Microsoft coming up with additional drivers, as Synaptics have not yet made a statement on the subject?
Once bitten twice shy. I will not be updating my other machines until I am certain that Win 10 is stable and works properly.

I have a newer dell laptop with the synaptics touchpad. Did the windows 10 upgrade from 8.1 (where my touchpad worked perfectly). Since installing Windows 10, the touchpad no longer scrolled along the right side.

To fix this, I went to the dell website using my service code to find downloads specific to my computer, and downloaded the synaptics touchpad driver for windows 8.1. I uninstalled the original 8.1 dell / synaptic installation. I'm guessing windows 10 overroad the synaptics driver. I simply reinstalled the synaptics driver and it works perfectly on Windows 10. One step to mention... after installation of the driver / program into windows 10, you go to the dell pointing devices / touchpad properties, click on the edge scroll and zoom tab, then turn that feature of the touchpad on. Gotta turn it on. Good to go!

That look like a solution. Unfortunately Sony does not provide drivers for the synaptics device in my Vaio as they no longer provide any backup services.
