Issues with add in drives being seen, MB Aorus X299 Gaming 3 Pro!

Bought a computer from CyberPower PC... it's been one thing after another with this very expensive system so far. Had to send it back to be fixed BUT before sending it back I was having the very same issues with additional drives (one optical and one a SATA HD) not being seen.

They claim the computer passed all their inspections so I ASSUME that all the SATA ports passed inspection but when I connect up an internal optical drive (blu ray) it's not seen in the BIOS or Windows 10 64 Pro. So something is up!

The tray ejects just fine so the power is fine but there is something amiss with the SATA connectivity. I've tried 3 cables and not all of them can be bad so I assume that something is not enabled in the BIOS. As a test I had an older SATA drive that's been blanked so connected that up to test, sure enough, it's not being seen. The motherboard has 8 SATA ports.. for some reason there are only 7 available, even in the motherboard manual there are only 7 mentioned as usable, which seems odd to me. But I've tried various SATA ports and none are working.

The Motherboard is an Aorus X299 Gaming 3 Pro board. I've looked through the manual, I've even asked CyberPower PC for help but as usual unless I bought it from them they won't help me, not even offering to help me with the BIOS setup to try to troubleshoot this. Horrible!!

Before I had sent the computer back to them the last time to be fixed correctly there was this same issue with the optical drive as well as an additional SATA HD not being seen SO it seems they didn't fix or enable the settings correctly!

I've never bought a computer with a gaming motherboard before so the settings are a bit different from the previous mb's I've gotten in the past! I've written to Gigabyte about this but wanted to reach out to you guys as well in case there is an easy fix for this. I hate the idea of having to use external drives of any kind and really want these two drives internal and operational. I'm a graphics artist and this has waylaid me long enough!

Can anyone lend a hand in trying to trouble shoot this one last issue?

PS. My forum computer specs are for this computer I'm writing from as I'm setting up the new computer (which is what this post pertains too) so haven't updated forum specs as of yet!

    Thanks for the help!
    Richard

    Hi RAMWolff

See if this article helps with DVD.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/...other-programs

As to SATA ports. While there maybe eight some boards lose one when you go m.2. It will be documented in manual. That said when you tried various SATA ports you said none are working. Are you trying all ports with same drive?

Did you plug in drive and then open disk management, right click start, could be drive needs letter assigned. You might also see other information in Disk management if Windows thinks drive is unallocated or Raw.

    Hi,

Thanks so much for the link and posting. Problem is the damned video card is long that I can't get to two of them. I manged to get into ONE of them behind the card but nope, nothing is seen by the BIOS or the system.

I don't know what M.2 is! I keep seeing that but I see no explanation for that! I don't think the manual explains that either. Plus I'm older so my eyes are not able to read the text very well in the manual. I really should just go find the PDF and keep it in my Dropbox for reference. LOL

New high end machines have m.2. It is another type of drive and can be very fast. You likely have one as none of your sata ports are working and the machine is booting from something.

    Example.

They come in a variety of sizes.

I'll have a look at your manual.

Page 36 of your manual is where to start.

You are booting from something. Hopefully it is listed in specs of machine purchased. At that they should not all be dead.

More reading for me but if you could post what type of drive you are booting from.

So quick update. There is nothing to do with my situation from that link. There is no mentioning of the drive in the Device Manager. The BIOS doesn't list it nor the dummy SATA drive I have hooked up to see if an ADDED drive will show in the BIOS. I'm beginning to wonder how this even made it out of their warehouse this messed up. They did get back to me stating that everything checked out fine when they were sending it back to me after they "fixed" stuff. No they didn't fix anything except for a panel that wasn't staying on in the front where the fans are. That's it!

How is this item set in your BIOS, top of page 64.

Still would like to know what you are booting from.

Hmmm, so M.2 is for RAID arrays? I don't need RAID, never liked it.

I did download the manual, MUCH better on my old eyes. BUT I don't see how knowing that is going to help open up my system to "seeing" the other two drives. I can build a computer but with my limited knowledge of knowing my way around strange BIOS, esp with the new tech these days I'm at a loss.

It's been well over 10 years since I've built a computer. All the computers that I've gotten from CyberPower PC have been set up to be easy to add stuff too and just work.. now this mess. WTF!

No an M.2 drive like other drives can be in a raid. Mine isn't, I boot and use it as C:.

They are considered small and very fast.

Depending on what you boot from and how it is connected certain SATA ports no longer work as per table.

This config seems to impact the most ports.

Hi, I'm booting from the Boot Manager into the SSD Drive. It's a very strange set up. When they sent back the "fixed" computer it was supposed to fully set up. The idiot that set it up created an account for Windows... so when I booted in it was asking me for a password which of course I didn't know so I was told, my CyberPower I'd have to just reinstall Windows 10 Pro again. I mean REALLY?? They are running a shoddy operation these days. In any case the Boot Manager has a serial code after it:
