Well, that's sad. I was hoping that following all that work, you would report that you had the pleasure of taking the PC case to the top of a tall building, and dropping the thing to the ground to witness the cloud of dust it created!
So it appears that it will have to stick around a little longer. :)
You can more or less guarantee that checking the Microsoft driver update database will report that the best driver is already installed. It may not be the best, and the most recent driver may not work on all hardware it should.
The Motherboard/OEM device driver support site is often the best place to start. If you get the correct driver, even an old version, it is possible that in future updates Microsoft can find a better version of it.
For instance, Realtek HD audio drivers, are invariably not installed, with Microsoft HD Audio drivers installed instead. Once the change to the OEM driver has been made,it updates correctly... until the next clean install.
