Running alternative clone hard drive on same computer

I was just thinking of making a clone of my Win 10 hard drive and running the program on alternative months. In other words run one version for a month then swapping drives and using the clone for the next month. All my files are saved on a NAS drive and the hard drives are in a removable caddy making it easy to swap drives. This way if a hard drive fails I always have a back up ready to go without having to reinstall from a backup. Each month I can check for updates so both hard drives will be up to date. All this is on the same desk top computer.

Are there any problems doing this.

    Thanks Bob

IT's called mirroring. If you install the second harddrive as a mirrored drive, you would not have to do what you're talking about. The OS would do it for you. You might check it out and see if it will work for you.

Tried to make a clone using a USB HDD docking unit but could not clone due to allocation size errors. Apparently this is a problem with these USB docking units. I tried both Macrium and Acronis both had the same allocation errors. I had a spare My Passport drive so I made a system image and restored to my new hard drive. Now I have 2 full versions of my system. Each 1st of month I will swap drive to keep them up to date.

    Thanks Robert
