    Thanks.
Samsung is 'selling' this option, featuring:
    ... increases the overall performance
... fastest and most reliable user experience

as you don't see any practical improvements, well, presumably the above is only under very specific (i.e. testing) circumstances, but is hardly (read: not) noticeable in day-to-day practice.

guess I'll leave it disable as well then.
    thanks for the feedback.

Well my 850 Pro SSD shows that "Magician 4.7" is installed , it claims it's the latest and shows no updates for 4.9 . I am using Win 7 though not Win 10.

Magician 4.9 i believe is specifically for Win 10 with the capability of using "rapid" mode for that OS.

For me on Win 7 i find enabling "rapid" does not increase performance that i can notice in day to day tasks , it does improve benchmark scores though but i don't care about that.

It is sort of hard to test but I do think rapid mode helps if you give it enough memory. I had the rapid mode set to 4GB with a Samsung 850 Pro and it seems to load up this memory at boot time. It would not help copying a file unless that file is already in that memory cache.

I just installed a 512GB Samsung 950 Pro and I can't test the rapid mode because that option is not yet available for this drive. I only get about 2,500 MB/sec read and 1,500 MB/sec now.

RAPID mode increases the overall performance of your computer by pairing the industry’s fastest SSD with the most advanced storage management techniques to deliver the fastest and most reliable user experience. RAPID mode analyzes your application and data usage, dynamically optimizes the I/O for Samsung SSDs, and eliminates system performance bottlenecks. RAPID mode is fully automated; no user management is necessary.

    Basically a Glorified prefetch
But yeah I use it, even though I'm pretty eclectic in my PC usage, and have no set way of doing things, that it can know what to put in memory.

The latest Magician firmware had two big differences than the old , it allowed "Rapid" to work in Win 10 and it also (according to Samsung) supports the new 950 Pro .

Yes the latest Samsung Magician 4.9 supports Windows 10 but rapid mode for their new 950 Pro SSD is NOT yet supported.

There has been a lot of comments around the web on a failed Samsung firmware update that bricked people's SSD's in the past so i can see the concern . Imo if a firmware update kills your drive the company providing it should be responsible for replacing it but i doubt it ends up that way.

Nowadays if my Magician does not show a firmware update is available i don't update it.

That's the only way to go Chris(for firmware).
It's too easy to download the wrong one, otherwise, then you can use your SSD as a X-mas tree ornament along with the floppy and CD
