If you open up Resource Monitor you can see it in real time.
I know. I actually use process hacker because it gives me real time icons in the system tray I can check from time to time and ensure nothing wonky is going on.

But without a log, it's hard to know. I'm not always in front of it to monitor.

My 256GB Samsung Pro has only 3.6TB and I have installed... Like I said only 3.6TB.
This seems reasonable. Word Man just brought up an excellent point.

Do you have your OS Optimization set to Maximum Reliability or Maximum Performance?

Interesting to see if this really makes a difference.

To compare apples to apples here, the "extra" writing could have more to do with how you've chosen to configure the SSD and OS interaction, e.g., selecting among OS optimization settings (Max Perf vs. Max. Reliability, etc.) in Magician (or tweaking OS settings yourself), whether using System Restore Points and how often, Page File settings, etc.
    Excellent point.

I have it set to Maximum Performance.

Do you find that you don't need hibernation mode? Does that affect restart times at all? Not that I suppose it really matters.

I have my page file set to system managed. Checking the settings it says Window has allocated 7040 MB for paging. I had turned off the page file before, but that caused crashes. I usually have 3 browsers open with about 10 tabs each, and when I would run a game it would go BSOD.

    I have indexing on.

I do not use System Restore. I have macrium for that.

You could also see if a custom Data collector set in performance monitor might help.

Doing that now. That was a really excellent suggestion.

    Thanks.

One thing I hope is, Samsung gets their head out of there butts and start to make Magician Windows 10 compatible. I get a huge boost using RAPID mode, can even make a PCIe SSD weep.

From my Windows 8.1 desktop just done this morning:
    For users:
    Attachment 19118

    For Geeks:
    Attachment 19119
One can see my 840Pro 256GB is blazing with RAPID turned on.

Plus I prefer to use their own Performance Optimization tool instead of Windows Defragment and Optimize Drives.

Every build I've tried to install it on causes a either a BSOD or it refuses to boot at all. When upgraded from Windows 7 it won't BSOD but is unstable and Magician crashes taking RAPID with it.

Plus I need Magician to update the disk's firmware(the last firmware update is what put it over the top, and this disk is a couple of years old has had many images and different OS installations:
    Attachment 19120

Everybody is waiting for the next update to see if RAPID will be included for Windows 10, but it's taking a while.
    Windows 10 is still evolving.
For example I tested a memory patcher for 3rd party themes(UXStyles) on the last leaked build in a Virtual Machine, and it didn't work at all now. And RAPID has to do with memory caching.
So it's possible something has/is changing in Windows on how memory is being used. I have noticed, for example, since RTM build 100240, Windows 10 uses much less RAM as previous OS versions(Windows 7, 8, 8.1).

Chris, you ran the winsat? It does the same as WEI(Windows Experience Index) in Windows 7. You will need to reboot so Windows can set you system up for SSD and if you have an additional internal HDD.
To see those scores you need to go to:
    C:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore
and open the last file(it is XML so it opens in your default browser)
    Attachment 43699

    Attachment 43700

Thanks Cliff, i knew something was wrong so i ran "Tweaking's Windows Repair " and now it works better . Have no idea what was wrong but my guess is some settings were not correct .

Chris take a look at this TechNet Library article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/.../hh825197.aspx
It explains what winsat does and why it's important for SSD deployment.

In an hour it's written 114 mb to the drive.

    Assuming that's normal activity that's 2.6 gigs a day.

Is that normal or is that high?
