Xbox 360 Wired Controller: Not Recognized (but other PCs do)

Hey friends, I've been trying to get an original Microsoft Xbox 360 controller to work on my main desktop PC. I'm running Windows 10 anniversary update, and when I first plugged the controller in, it recognized it, but didn't react at all when I tried to do anything with the controller.

So I uninstalled the driver and restarted Windows, hoping it would plug-and-play, reinstalling the drivers. Now, Windows doesn't recognize the controller at all. Whenever I plug it in, it says an unrecognized device was attached. In the Device Manager, it says:

    "Device Descriptor Request Failed"

The controller works flawlessly on the same PC under Ubuntu, as well as on my laptop PC under Windows 10 (Anniv Update) and Ubuntu. It is definitely not broken.

Any way to manually download these drivers and install them?

I tried some more on my laptop, now it's happening there in Windows 10 as well. I will see if I can get my hands on another wired original Xbox 360 controller to see if mine is broken after all.

EDIT: should have clarified: a few reboots later, Windows on my desktop PC recogizes the controller again, but it still doesn't accept any input. When I press buttons or move sticks, nothing happens. This is now on both my laptop and desktop PC. So, either it's something to do with the Anniversary Update (some people mentioned that online), or the controller's borked.

Try uninstall Driver Software, if there is such one. If not, go to Device Manager, and Delete the Driver. Reboot and it should be working.

Thanks Adalwar! That was the first thing I did, but it didn't solve the problem. I think my gf still has a wired Xbox 360 controller lying around, I'll try with that next chance I get.

OK. The last thing I am suspecting would be a Hardware failure.
Did you try to boot in Safe Mode? Sometimes things get better after a Safe Mode boot.
That "old" tricks, they did help in the past.

For what it's worth, my XBOX ONE controller works fine when plugged in via USB in the AU.
