Tbh, I'm holding back on updating to this version since they re-introduced that pesky FMAPP application among the files.
I still keep reading that it can cause lag in PC performance and ramp up CPU usage. Plus, deleting the FMAPP files makes updating impossible as your PC will tell you that those files are needed to update your current version.
I'll wait for the next update. I have no idea why those files are included in this version or any version... seems they have no real use.
@asturias7: FYI, the FMAPP files are used in Lenovo-based Realtek audio drivers using Realtek audio hardware subsystem IDs beginning with "17AA" - they seem to be related to Fortemedia

supported IDs for the 8335 driver packages [the 135.5Mb 64bit and 78.8Mb 32bit ones] (click on the info to display the Update Details for 8335 and click on the Package Details tab to display the IDs listed)
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0236&subsys_17aa38fd
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0236&subsys_17aa38fe
supported IDs for the 8335 driver package [the 132.9Mb 64bit package]
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0298&subsys_17aa380b
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0236&subsys_17aa38fd
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0236&subsys_17aa38fe
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0294&subsys_17aa310c
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0662&subsys_17aa36ee
So far 8351 is offered in 64bit only - I'll get one for now; MS may post up a 32bit version or another 64bit version with either Nahimic or Creative enhancement DLL files added; next update for me after 8350 something will be 8400 or 8450.

No idea asturias7. I downloaded it and had a look but apart from the normal .inf files there are a lot of .sbin files which I have no idea about.
I may roll back to build 8346 tomorrow then try updating to 8348 just to see what happens :)
just forget about 8348 and update to 8351 as they're not designed for your specific realtek audio device.

supported hardware IDs listed for 8348 are the following:
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0298&subsys_17aa60c4
    hdaudio\func_01&ven_10ec&dev_0298&subsys_17aa60cb
once again, "17AA" based hardware subsystem IDs pointing to Lenovo - these IDs are both listed in the HDXNEC.INF file

I know they're by Fortemedia, but didn't know they are related to Lenovo-based systems...
anyhow, I never bothered with 8348, was just curious... and I was probably the first to update to 8351 here.
    Cheers

This new 8351 driver sounds amazing imo. I get a lot of bass again and the sound is very good, keeping this one.

    6.0.1.8228 > 6.0.1.8351

I am still liking 6.0.1.8228. 8308 was close, and would take some serious a - b comparing to decide (I'll just stick with 8228 again). The rest do not have the same clarity, crispness, and separation. The cymbals and higher frequencies are dull.

Is there a chance that depending on the Realtek chipset used, some versions may sound better for one chipset model and some other versions may sound better for the other chipset models?

Every chance of that happening and it's the main reason for users preferring different driver builds to each other :)

Yeah. I was even wondering if the Windows (LTSB vs latest branch, etc) version may make a difference. Heck, even the design of different motherboards with the same Realtek chip can vary. Some do them better than others.

For what it's worth, I am on 1607 LTSB (Anniversary Update) with an ALC892 on a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P-rev-2 board...and I prefer 8228. Could be just my taste in sound too. I think most people like more bass than I do, so I prefer flat "un-enhanced" audio.

...and then there is what speakers, receiver/amp you use and how is that tuned, etc. etc. etc.
