I'm not using a high impedance mic (I think... its an old Astro A40 headset, maybe 6 years old at this point, its never given me an issue). Are you using front or rear jacks? I filed an issue with ASUS support, we'll see what they say.
Front and back. Front may have a problem if the connectors/jacks on the case are not HD but olderAC97 without sensors.

Jack-sensing seems to work when things are plugged in (I get the popup when I plug things in). It worked on the older motherboard and the HD Audio header. I'll update when I learn more.

For whatever reason, this breaks the UI (it says it can't find a supported device or something) for the UWP app I started using. Granted, I did mess around a bit with things, MSI made a new UWP app available for my motherboard, it's a pretty straight forward replacement of the Realtek CP plus some MSI branding, as you can see in the images. I can't find a link to the Store download...

MSI would offer: Realtek HD Universal Driver, Version 6.0.1.8425

I would update this driver from Device Manager. As one can see in the image, .8447 works great. .8451 does not. Not sure why. Just to be clear, the sound still seems OK, but I can no longer do anything in the UWP app.

Another winner, even over 8447 for me.

I had no trouble using the CAB to update my audio driver to 8451, but I cannot find the Realtek Audio Control item in the Microsoft Store. Am I missing something? Just curious: my audio is working fine.

There's nothing "Realtek" in the store. Maybe some side load place ?
